Sole wore out way too quickly.

I am a huge fan of Salewa gear, but I'm disappointed in this shoe. Shoe fit me true to size. It's comfortable enough and was a fairly sturdy shoe. I wore it a good bit for day-to-day use to break it in, along with several runs in the neighborhood on asphalt. The sole wore out in no time at all -- a couple of months -- at the strong contact points of the shoe such as the heel end and the ball of the foot. It quickly got to the point where the sole (not that aggressive to begin with) has worn to the point that the shoe is unusable for trail running or hiking. The choice is now whether to pay to replace the sole on this $175 shoe with high quality Vibram or similar soles, or to throw the shoes away. It's a shame an otherwise well built shoe is useless because Salway chose a low quality sole. I'm still a giant Salewa fan and will continue to buy their gear, but not another pair of these.

Hard plastic feeling sole. Shoe is uncomfortable and inappropriate for for running. I?m mad I have to pay shipping on the return now, last time buying through backcountry

Great shoes!

These suckers are the albatrosses of running shoes; they want to run and never stop, as though it would require more effort to take a break than to continue flying down the trail. I've taken them up and down multiple 14,000-foot peaks in Colorado, both on and off a mountain bike. They've seen snow, rain, mud, scree, and rock, and still look like new. My overall impression of the Dropline GTX is that it is best suited for trail runners and through hikers on any terrain, and if paired with waterproof gaiters, will provide ample protection from all kinds of weather.

Great for high mileage days!

The Droplines are perfect for when you want added cushion, but don?t want to feel like you have a bulky or unstable maximal shoe on. I use these for hiking in CO and they provide great protection from the rocky terrain. I also like the one piece outside because it is super durable.

I work for Salewa and I had the chance to get these on my feet to offer a fit review! I found that going up a half size was best for me. The width is perfect and I have an average to wider foot. I will purchasing these for long backpacking trips so I plan on having swelling in my feet!
