great reel for a good price

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I picked up this reel not too long ago and have been really satisfied with it so far. Very light and has a good retrieve speed, and it's really easy to remove the spool. I like the textured finish compared to a lot of the other glassy/smooth finishes on other reels. Great entry level reel that doesn't feel cheap.

Perfect Entry to Large Arbor Reels

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've purchased two of these. 5/6 and 7/8. The drag is very smooth. High quality build and parts. Would HIGHLY recommend this reel for someone looking for a quality large arbor reel and not looking to break the bank.

Nice reel great price

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I got the 3/4. Specs say it fit's a WF4 with 100yds of 20lb.
With SA GPX WF4 I could just squeeze on 80yds, 70 would have been better.
No big deal but be aware.
Drag is great, finish is nice.
Good little reel.

First Large Arbor Reel

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The 2200 was the "getting my toes wet" purchase a year ago with Sage and I am loving this reel paired up with my TFO BVK.

Although the BVK shines as a streamer rod I have been getting it bent on the dry and nymph rigs so far and the 2200 has a nice adjustable drag system and large arbor design great for a lot of rods out there. I have the 5/6 wt reel and have been impressed with the feel and performance it's offered so far.

The numbered drag system is a nice touch - easy to adjust at the blink of an eye. The weight of this reel balances well with most Sage rods out there also. Looking forward to giving the 3200 a shot later this season!

Simple But Good

I have been really pleased with this reel. It has good weight and doesn't feel too heavy. It is crazy durable and I never worry about it malfunctioning or having issues. I would suggest this to anyone who is looking at getting a new reel without spending too much money.

    Great reel

I have 2 4200 reels on high end rods and purchased this reel to go on a lower end rod and this is every bit as good as the Sage 4200 series. Only difference so far is the 2200 reel is a matte finish verses the polished finish of the 4200. The drag is just as good as the Sage 4200 reels.

      Simple and solid

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I feel like a lot of the cheaper reels out there today are just too delicate. One drop onto the rocks and they're bent beyond repair. I got this reel in a 3/4 5/6 and the 7/8 and so far have been very impressed. I haven't fished the 7/8 as much but the other two are holding strong after a full season of guiding. Meaning they are on the river every day being dropped by clients and put through the wringer. they may not last quite as long as some of the pricier reels out there but for the price I am quite impressed.

      When a drag is great.

This reel has the Sage drag found in the high end line. Protecting delicate tippet is easy with a drag this good. Multiple settings will protect 6X line nicely. Big detentes prevent the drag form rotating accidentally. Great 1st or 10th reel. Sage warranty is second to none.

        Defective reel 2280

When the slightest amount of pressure is applied to the drag setting the reel would begin to lock up. The reel was a disappointment and it never even made it to see water... Hopefully I can get things straightened out and have it fixed or replaced

          Very Happy With This

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Got the fly fishing bug in the spring, shoppped around and went with the Sage 2250 to get me going. It's been a great, functional reel, drag adjusts and works very well. Very easy to pull the spool and switch to left handed retrieve. Definitely recommend this product.
