    R3 130 T.I. - I.R. Alpine Touring Boot

The R3 130 T.I. - I.R. is the stiffest boot that Roxa builds for backcountry touring. The 130 flex gives it an aggressive freeride performance suitable for advanced riders dropping big lines in heavy powder. And not only is it one of the stiffest backcountry boots out there, it's also surprisingly comfortable with a moderately narrow 99mm last and Roxa's BioFit design. Biofit pre-forms the shell to provide relief in common "issue" areas for all-day comfort. This R3 Boot boasts a thermo-moldable liner to enhance comfort even further.

Roxa built the R3 130 out of an innovative Cabrio construction that uses three pieces instead of the standard two. Cabrio provides an easier entry, a higher range of hiking, a tenacious lateral power and downhill control. The buckles, even the walk mode latch, are metal to ensure solid security. The GripWalk sole uses rubber lugs to allow traction on rocks, ice, and steep boot packs.

Great boot for its first 50 days...

Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I put off writing this because I hate writing poor reviews, but... I enjoyed this boot for its first forty or fifty days on snow until the crucial middle buckles started failing. The first time was no big deal because there happened to be ice on the buckle, which meant I didn't lose the part, and just had to replace the screw at the local shop. The second time however I wasn't so lucky. Half the middle buckle assembly fell off due to the screw failing, and I couldn't recover it. This meant my heel was no longer securely held in place and my forefoot was painfully slamming into the front of the boot for the rest of the run. Because the part is specialized, neither of the two repair shops I spoke to could help. I couldn't have gotten a replacement part quickly enough even if I had gotten fast service from Roxa or Backcountry's warranty department, so this meant I had to buy brand new boots at on-mountain prices if I wanted my season to continue, which was a total bummer. @roxa, I'm happy to edit this review if we can come to an acceptable solution! I'd love to give your customer service department some props. @backcountry please support line breaks in your reviews so I don't have to leave a poorly formatted wall of text.

Update: Roxa's warranty department has provided me with replacement buckles, but since I was on the road when this happened I still had to buy new boots in order to keep skiing.
