Comfortable and fun
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I bought the Rossignol BC X6 boot for covering ground and low angle powder skiing. I've skied them on a 80mm underfoot fischer ski. After a full season of use, they have held up really well. Compared to Rossignol's skate skiing boots, they are very spacious which makes them more comfortable -- the 45 fits me well in the X6, but in my WC Skate Boots I have to size up to a 46.
The sole is quite beefy, and I've been able to make parallel turns in soft snow up to ~30 degrees.
One big caveat, on my 80mm underfoot skis (112m tips) if the snow is not perfect, then engaging an edge with these boots and the BC Nordic bindings is VERY difficult. Even with the extra cuff around the ankle, the soft boot tends to give before tipping a wide ski far enough to engage. Makes for some sporty descents.
With a narrower ski, it's probably easier, but then the powder wouldn't be as fun!
Poor quality liner
I used these boots a single season the the liner is now torn out in the heels of both boots. My last Alpina boots lasted 4 seasons. These are comfortable initially but if you do any amount of skiing, don't buy these. Very disappointed and Rossignol hasn't responded to my concerns about these boots. Poor quality boots and customer service.
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
These boots look like they will work great for mild/moderate BC cross country skis. Haven't used them yet so can't speak to warmth.
