Riding is most fun when you go fast—like hair-on-fire-face-melting-lips-flapping-in-the-breeze fast—and there aren’t many enduro forks that like to go faster than the RockShox Pike RCT3 Solo Air 150 27.5in Fork. It’s the ruler by which other six-inch forks are measured.
Unlike the Dual Position Air, the Solo Air has a single position, so there’s no dropping the front end of your bike on climbs, but this change saves weight and simplifies operation. It climbs well regardless, but the Solo Air really makes its money on techy and high-speed descents, big hits, and aggressively flowy sections of trail. It uses RockShox’ Rapid Recovery system to smooth out small bumps at high speed without using up all its travel, and it comes with a burly Maxle axle reinforced lower leg (called a Power Bulge, for what it’s worth) for increased stiffness and better tracking when you’re blasting through rocks.
Adjustability matters, too, which is why the Solo Air’s three-position RCT3 switch lets you choose between different amounts of lockout for descending, trail, and climbing. You can also adjust rebound and compression, and the PSI menu printed on the stanchion takes the guesswork out of dialing in your pressures.
