Dual personality for aggressive riders.
Whether you're pedaling up alpine terrain approaching 12,000 feet or plunging into rock-strewn descents in the desert, count on the RockShox Lyrik RCT3 Dual Position Air 160 Boost 27.5in Fork to get the job done. It switches from 130 to 160-millimeters of travel with its Dual Position Air Spring. This dual-position travel is especially nice for altering the geometry of your long-travel bike, making it pedal with greater efficiency when you drop it to 130 millimeters of travel. You'll find the bike's front end wanders less on long climbs in the lower travel setting, as the bike isn't as raked out with only 130 millimeters of travel. And when it's time to enjoy the downhill, switch it back to 160 millimeters of descent-taming travel.
The Lyrik RCT3 is the stiffest fork in RockShox's line this side of a dual-crown Boxxer, making it purpose-built for aggressive all-mountain and enduro disciplines. Its increased stiffness comes from robust 35-millimeter stanchions with thicker walls than what you'd find on the Pike. This makes the Lyrik RCT3 better at handling bigger hits and gnarlier rock gardens on downhill sections where the Pike would be on the limit of its capabilities.
New for 2018, the Lyrik RCT3 benefits from the addition of the Charger 2 damper. This damper enhances the Lyrik's overall sensitivity to small bumps and terrain imperfections, in turn giving you higher levels of traction over roots and rocks. The Charger 2 damper offers a wider range of low-speed compression tuning the Open mode, meaning you'll be able to fine-tune its feel to your exact riding preferences. As always, you'll find the 3-position knob for switching between Open, Pedal, and Firm, plus there's the standard rebound adjust at the bottom of the fork's leg.
Boost spacing means the Lyrik RCT3 fork clears tires up to 2.8 inches wide. This allows you to run a high volume tire for benefits in traction and bump compliance. It's compatible with RockShox's Torque Caps, which are wider hub end caps that stiffen the interface between hub and fork dropout, which is especially helpful in long-travel applications. To gain the benefit of Torque Caps, you'll need a compatible hub from SRAM, but there are also a few wheel companies now using this technology on their hubs. Fear not if you don't use Torque Caps, as the Lyrik works with standard hubs, so long as they're Boost.
