    Disc, Aero, Tubeless, Yes Please.

Disc brakes and dropbars are no longer mutually exclusive. More and more road bikes are coming equipped with them and let's face it, it makes sense. Reynolds brings us the 46 Aero  Disc Carbon Wheelset so you won't lose any aerodynamic advantages or stiffness if you are transitioning over from a rim brake deep section setup. Weight gain is negligible and we can almost promise you that it will soon be forgotten when you appreciate the modulation and power while descending and in all-weather conditions. A tubeless ready rim bed lets you enjoy running lower pressure and virtually eliminate pinch and puncture related flats.

The wheels are built around Reynolds' Dispersive Effect Termination (DET) design philosophy. DET begins with a NACA-shaped rim profile with an external width of 28mm blending well with today's current crop of wider tubeless tires. The additional benefits include reduced turbulence for better stability, increased lateral rigidity, and a more comfortable ride. The Aero's shape smooths airflow over the wheel and re-attaches it at the rear of the rim which reduces drag, allowing you to ride faster with less effort.

In real world riding scenarios and racing, you'll see wind yaw angles between 0 and 20 degrees. Reynolds' rim-shaping DET design is built to excel at these angles and helps distributes side forces, also known as cross wind, reducing the pressure pushing at the center of mass. This translates to less violent tugging at the bar so you can descend with confidence and spend less energy correcting your bike as it's more apt to stay on course, while other riders are fighting to stay out of the gutter.

Center lock hubs offer quick and solid rotor mounting and will work with 6-bolt rotors with adapters. Legendary Industry Nine hubs with 3-pawl, 6-degree engagement help you get the jump on the group out of the last turn of a crit and the durability ensures miles of trouble-free riding.

    • Carbon fiber construction keeps rims light and responsive
    • DET rim shaping improves aerodynamics and crosswind stability

    Couldn't be happier

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'll try to write a longer review once I have some more miles on the wheels, but for now I am incredibly impressed with how stable these guys are in cross winds, I couldn't even feel them being pushed, better handling than my shallow section wheels. These guys look great and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter.

Wheels look as good as they ride!

Wheels performed beautifully on 100 miles of riding this weekend, superb stability in some hefty crosswinds, and the disc braking was great for the drizzles. These guys pair well with Schwalbe Pro One 25mm tires.

    Fantastic wheels

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm kind of a big guy (read "heavy") so I've always been wary of carbon wheels, but after going on a tour of the Reynolds facility here in Salt Lake City and talking not only to their sales guys, but also their engineers, I decided that it was time.

So far, I am duly impressed. With a rim depth of 46mm, they have enough of a section to be of some aerodynamic assistance, but not so deep that they will be a detriment in cross winds, and are still light enough that they shouldn't be an issue when climbing either.

While intended primarily for use on the road, Reynolds assures me that they'll perform well when racing CX or doing gravel rides as well.

While Reynolds does offer a lifetime warranty against manufacturers defects, one of the other points that sold me is the Reynolds Assurance Program (http://reynoldscycling.com/support/assurance/), which for a nominal fee up front will allow you to replace two wheels, no questions asked, in case something happens that is NOT a manufacturer's defect. In other words, if you forget that your bike is leaning up against your car, and you back up and roll over the wheels smashing them, if you have the RAP in place, Reynolds will replace your wheels ... yep, even stupidity is covered!

    Fantastic wheels
