    Welcome to the new age.

Even the most expensive sports cars don't have the saliva-starting aesthetics of the Redington 4-Piece Vapen Red Fly Rod. This sleek quartet of futuristic carbon fiber comes together to create a singularly sweet piece of fast-casting action when you're moving off small streams and into big bodies of water. Red where your hand holds the rod signifies a bold break from the norm, leaving cork behind.
Ribbons of high-density carbon fibers are first wrapped inside the blank and then counter-wrapped on the exterior of the blank to increase power, stability, and vibrational dampening. Firing sidearm loops into trees is surprisingly tight and clean, and striking the sweet spot some 50-60 feet is even easier. Load 'er up and toss a few bombs without sacrificing touch for power.
Instead of traditional cork handles, the Red reaches for the tech that has kept golfers grinning. Wrap your hand around the Winn non-slip polymer for a softer handle that doesn't get slippery or too hard to hold as the day wears on. Alignment dots take away any uncertainty when it's time to put together your angling weapon. Handle options let you choose half-wells, full-wells, fighting butts, or just an ordinary extension. When you're done for the day, keep the Red ready in the included cloth storage bag.

    Super responsive rod

I’ve been flinging flies for a long time now and you really can’t go wrong with this rod. The handle is great and all but the rod is super responsive has a fast action and enough backbone to set the hook and play the fish. Worth the coin if ya get it at a discount

      Works when it's not broken

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is the 3rd time in 2 years this rod has broken on me. I like the action on the rod, which is fast, but that also may be why it keeps breaking on me. I'm pretty rough on my gear, but I haven't broken any other rods besides this one. It is $40 plus shipping every time to send it in for repair so at this point I would rather just put that $120 towards an Orvis or TFO rod.

Pros: The golf club texture is a cool idea, fast action

Cons: Handle is slippery when wet, stains easily, fragile, dealing with warranty department

      Works when it's not broken

It's actually $30 to have it repaired. I've sent more than one rod in and the fee was always $30. Try finding a rod with the action this one has for the price...I'll wait. I'm far harder on my gear than you could even fathom and the only time this rod broke was when a truck door was shut on it. It cost $30 to replace it. Not $40, not more, not less. It was $30. Don't spread dishonest rhetoric because you likely chose express shipping and paid a higher fee. That's not the companys fault. $30 is a very reasonable price for replacing a $400 product.

Pretty nice rod for the price!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this rod in a 6wt as a back up and for 2nd rigged rod with streamers. So far I really like it even thought it is a medium action (I prefer fast actions) but nice to slow things down when throwing streamers. I was skeptical about the grip but now I really like it especially when it is wet. Only issue I don't like is the soft case, I just don't like them. While in AK the whole thing gets soaked and you have to dry out the case, sleeve and rod but with limited cork on the grip mold is less of an issue. If you want a medium action rod that casts good and at this price point this it is a great rod.

      Garbage. Don't waste your money.

Very excited to purchase this rod, only to be greatly disappointed. Very pleased the first time I used it, as it casted as described. The second time I used it, it cracked in half mid-cast. Maybe it was just a manufacturers defect, but Redington requires a fee to fix it. I would go with a rod company who backs their products.

I understand it is a bummer that things break (defects do occur). It is also a bummer that there are processing fees for warranties. However Reddington is an awesome company that takes care of there customers. I have send back three rods, and two pairs of waders, no questions asked. They just send new products out in a timely manner. When a product is no longer manufactured they even have bumped me up to a more expensive newer model! I am a big fan of Reddington, mainly because they have a great customer service department, and a solid warranty policy! Just my 2 cents on the company, I have never used the vapen (i own a CPX, and a LINK their older higher end fly rods) so i cannot comment to its function or durability. however my friend recently purchased one and is pleased

I am about ready to order the Vapen, I already have a Link and wanted another one in a heavier wt. After talking to Redington, their customer service and warranty are awesome, I am fully convinced this is the rod for me. I will let you know if it breaks.

My link broke when I was fishing in winter, ya there was a fee, but the fixed it fast. Better than having to buy a new rod!

Every company charges either a fee, or "Back shipment" cost. even my Scott S4 $925 rod with lifetime warranty. Even my TFO BVK they charge $25 dollars. still nice that they back it. better luck on your next rod mate.

This rod is magnificent. I'm sorry you had this experience and I don't doubt your claim. That being said, I'm pretty sure you'd have been able to get this fixed for free if you were persistent. Saying that Redington doesn't back their product is simply untrue. First off, this rod is incredibly durable and I can guarantee I'm WAY harder on my gear than you could even fathom. This rod is under priced for what you're getting and $30 to replace it still puts you ahead of the game in comparison to other rods that don't deliver half of what this one does but cost way more. Redington backs their product and does so for a very low price. I've owned my Vapen for four years and I beat the hell out of it. It broke once (when my truck door was shut on it). It was quickly replaced and the $30 dollar fee was nothing when considering the amazing product it was covering. You're basing your experience on a rod that you even said was likely defective and claiming a company that ABSOLUTELY backs their product doesn't do so because you lacked the persistence to speak to someone who would have replaced it for free. Like I said before, you still came out on top paying an extra $30 for a rod that outperforms rods twice its' price. I absolutely call bullcrap on your claim.
