Welcome to the new age.
Even the most expensive sports cars don't have the saliva-starting aesthetics of the Redington 4-Piece Vapen Red Fly Rod. This sleek quartet of futuristic carbon fiber comes together to create a singularly sweet piece of fast-casting action when you're moving off small streams and into big bodies of water. Red where your hand holds the rod signifies a bold break from the norm, leaving cork behind.
Ribbons of high-density carbon fibers are first wrapped inside the blank and then counter-wrapped on the exterior of the blank to increase power, stability, and vibrational dampening. Firing sidearm loops into trees is surprisingly tight and clean, and striking the sweet spot some 50-60 feet is even easier. Load 'er up and toss a few bombs without sacrificing touch for power.
Instead of traditional cork handles, the Red reaches for the tech that has kept golfers grinning. Wrap your hand around the Winn non-slip polymer for a softer handle that doesn't get slippery or too hard to hold as the day wears on. Alignment dots take away any uncertainty when it's time to put together your angling weapon. Handle options let you choose half-wells, full-wells, fighting butts, or just an ordinary extension. When you're done for the day, keep the Red ready in the included cloth storage bag.

Super responsive rod
Iâve been flinging flies for a long time now and you really canât go wrong with this rod. The handle is great and all but the rod is super responsive has a fast action and enough backbone to set the hook and play the fish. Worth the coin if ya get it at a discount
Works when it's not broken
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
This is the 3rd time in 2 years this rod has broken on me. I like the action on the rod, which is fast, but that also may be why it keeps breaking on me. I'm pretty rough on my gear, but I haven't broken any other rods besides this one. It is $40 plus shipping every time to send it in for repair so at this point I would rather just put that $120 towards an Orvis or TFO rod.
Pros: The golf club texture is a cool idea, fast action
Cons: Handle is slippery when wet, stains easily, fragile, dealing with warranty department
Pretty nice rod for the price!
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I bought this rod in a 6wt as a back up and for 2nd rigged rod with streamers. So far I really like it even thought it is a medium action (I prefer fast actions) but nice to slow things down when throwing streamers. I was skeptical about the grip but now I really like it especially when it is wet. Only issue I don't like is the soft case, I just don't like them. While in AK the whole thing gets soaked and you have to dry out the case, sleeve and rod but with limited cork on the grip mold is less of an issue. If you want a medium action rod that casts good and at this price point this it is a great rod.
Garbage. Don't waste your money.
Very excited to purchase this rod, only to be greatly disappointed. Very pleased the first time I used it, as it casted as described. The second time I used it, it cracked in half mid-cast. Maybe it was just a manufacturers defect, but Redington requires a fee to fix it. I would go with a rod company who backs their products.
