An Intro to Alpine Climbing
Alpine climbing differs from other styles in that the goal is usually to reach the summit of a mountain. The best season to climb is late spring to early fall, after most of the snow has melted. Expect long approaches, remote locations, few bail-out options, and a mix of several climbing styles—from scrambling to trad climbing. To succeed, careful route planning and technical skills are required—including crevasse rescue if glaciers are involved. We’ve gathered gear and tips to make your first steps into the alpine a breeze.
