When you're suiting up for a rowdy trail day, skip the basic liner short and toss on a little extra padding with the Race Face Flank Liner. These protection-packed shorts treat you to shock-absorbing padding at the hips with removable D30 protective foam for coverage from hip-checks, while heat-molded foam at outer thighs add additional protection from overgrown trails, and impacts. The liner shorts themselves are built from light and breathable mesh to keep venting a priority, while flat-lock seams reduce irritation and securely hold the panels together. While hip and thigh padding is a plus, we wouldn't want to toss on these shorts without a little support for our sit bones. Fortunately Race Face employs a high-performance Italian-made chamois that packs in triple-density foam to soak up harsh trail chatter from jarring rock gardens. The chamois offers rapid sweat evacuation, and odor-fighting properties to keep you fresh through all of the miles.

High Performance Italian Chamois?
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Size Bought:
- XL
- Height:
- 5' 9"
- Weight:
- 195
I was expecting something closer to a good quality road chamois by the way the description reads. I ride both road and MTB. My expectations were a little to high. The chamois was sufficient for my typical MTB ride of up to 3 hours, but didn't live up to my thoughts of what a high performance Italian chamois is. I have enough Castelli bib shorts to know what Italian quality is. The liner short fits well and has enough protection to give me the extra confidence to send bigger lines. D30 hip pads remove easily for washing. The fit and placement of the padding makes the protection unobtrusive. Pedaling uphill was not an issue and I never felt weighed down or uncomfortable with shifting pads sliding around. There is no coccyx protection. These would be perfect if the chamois was of slightly higher quality and coccyx protection. Perhaps Race Face doesn't get many dual road/MTB riders. Overall, I'm satisfied with them, but I'm not fully sold on the "triple density high quality Italian chamois" advertising.
