    Use your head.

No matter your alpine pursuit of choice, high winds, and bitter cold are probably in your future. Rab's Shadow Balaclava takes the sting out of foul alpine weather, with Polartec Power Stretch fabric and strategic panels of Polartec Wind Pro to cut the wind, wick moisture, and trap heat close to your head. If you get warm, you can flip the head section back to cool down, so you'll stay comfortable while climbing, mountaineering, and skiing.

    Gets the Job Done

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I liked the thickness of the balaclava, and it keeps your ears, nose and chin warm on those bitter cold days. I wasn't as big a fan of the actual fit for me. I do have a larger head (size Large helmet) but the balaclava didnt feel very snug at the bottom of the forehead section. It felt a little bit loose and would slide up my forehead above my goggles sometimes. And the face part of the balaclava covered mostly well, but left gaps around my cheek/temple area for the cold to sneak through. But again, it might fit better on those with smaller domes.

    Warm and dry

I much prefer this style over your common Buff. Does not slide down off your head underneath a helmet or beanie, which I always found as an issue myself when just using a Buff. Frames your face well without letting the cold breeze in. Keeping you comfortably warm and dry. Snowboarding, touring, mountaineering and ice climbing.

Overall Great for the Cold Conditions

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: OSFA
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 180lbs

I would use this more on the colder days as there is no mouth hole which could be too warm in my opinion in other conditions. On the colder days I don't mind not having it but to each their own. Other than that it performed well!

    Keeps warm and stays dry.

This balaclava is just good enough to be in the top list. The only disadvantage is that there are no special holes for mouth and nose designed for better breathability.

I have used this Rab Shadow Balaclava at -15°C degree over 2.5k meter.
