    Midweight warmth for on-the-move alpinists.

The Rab Women's Microlight Down Jacket will warm your core whether you hike across a snow-capped landscape, skin up wintery peaks, belay your partner up an alpine ascent, or hang out by a cold campsite. Its Pertex Microlight outer fabric makes this jacket very lightweight, surprisingly durable, windproof, and highly breathable, and the nylon ripstop lining helps the jacket slide easily over your layers and boosts durability on the inside. Between the fabric layers, hydrophobic Nikwax-treated 750-fill European goose down brings a sweet warmth-to-weight ratio for moderately cold and slightly soggy days, or chillier adventures when you'll be moving a lot. The down also means this jacket packs down small—Rab included a stuffsack, too—so you'll always have space to bring it along.

The Microlight's slim fit helps avoid the super-puff look, and it means you can layer a waterproof shell over this jacket when weather conditions get unfavorable. The jacket's Lycra-bound cuffs and hem drawcord keep undesirable breezes out, and two hand pockets warm your fingers. Behind the zipper, an insulated storm flap seals out breezes and drafts, and the soft chin guard lets you duck your head against the cold without rubbing your skin raw.

I purchased this jacket for my girlfriend, she loves it, everything about it! Definitely keeps her warm, and isn't too heavy. Fit is very nice, comfortable.

    Pretty sweet jacket!

Just got this jacket a few weeks ago, and so far so good. I've only gotten a chance to wear it in about 30 degree weather, however I live in WI, so....I'll have plenty of opportunity to test out the warmth factor. I'm 5'9, 150 lbs, and I opted for the large, fits well, plenty of room to wear a bulky sweater under it if I want, but not overly big on me. (Probably could have gotten a medium and been OK, but to me Large stands for Longer - longer arm lengths and longer torso.) I will say that I saw all of the reviews about the jacket leaving feathers all over your clothes, and choose to disregarded them, but...the jacket does leave feathers all over your clothes (particularly on your back) the end of the day however, they are just feathers that can be removed with a lint roller, and when your out hiking with a jacket that is nice and warm, how much to feathers really matter? Overall a good solid purchase!

    I love this jacket but...

I really love everything about this jacket, but I can't take the shedding of the feathers any longer. Every time I take my down jacket off, my fleece is covered in feathers. I've had it for about a year now and it's time to look for something new.

    Not that perfect as expected

I'm 130lbs,167cm and I ordered M. Once a time I even want to order L. It's a little bit too big for me. Not that fit to my body. But the most terrible experience is the down keeps going out. I cannot even wear a dark shirt under the jacket! I bought one more for my mother and she has the same problem. I cannot

I think my wife tried every other lightweight hood-less down jackets before settling on this one. She loves it primarily because it has that perfect mix of FUNCTION (warm, pockets in all of the right places, appropriate room in the shoulder for mobility) and STYLE (flattering cut and attractive colors)

In the photo, the RAB jacket is the second from the left.

      Fantastic Jacket!

This jacket is great, I tried on some other lighter puffy jackets before settling on this one, the others were paper thin and did not provide a lot of warmth, the Rab Microlight jacket is much better. Slim Design still looks feminine and stylish but keeps me nice and cozy in this fall weather. I originally ordered a small when looking at the sizing chart but returned it for a medium to give more options for layering underneath. I'm 5"8 and 130lbs and the medium is the perfect fit!

Perfect combination of warmth and weight

Thank you to and Rab for hand-selecting me to review this awesome down jacket for the benefit of the community!

I was really excited to get this jacket for testing because it had always been on my short list of lighter down jackets. I have to say, I couldn't be happier with this jacket. I'm usually one to want to have a variety of jackets, backpacks, etc. to choose from but since getting it - I've never wanted to use a different jacket! So it has experienced non stop continuous use since it arrived! In 30 days it went from being on my "short list" to my go-to warm jacket.

This jacket isn't quite in the ultralight down category (some ultralight down jackets are half the weight) but it still is very light at about 12 ounces (15 for the larger sizes). I compared it to a few lighter down jackets (8 ounce jackets) that I own and found that the Rab Microlight outperformed in every situation. Far too often gear seems to trade comfort, performance, etc. for shaving a few ounces. This jacket is the winning combination performance, warmth, and weight.

The exterior Pertex Microlight fabric did excellent at shedding water when nature decided to throw some sleet, snow, and freezing rain at it. Wind stood no chance at beating the fabric either - and I found myself more than comfortable in 50 mph winds in sleet/snow. (OK my face and legs weren't comfortable - but everwhere the jacket was, I remained happy!) The Pertex Microlight claims to be "down proof", meaning your down shouldn't come through the fabric - I found this to be accurate; however, like nearly every other jacket I own, a few feathers did escape here and there along the stitching, which is to be expected.

To give the exterior fabric a good test, I brushed up against nearly every surface I could on a regular basis: shrub, tree trunk, car door, mailbox etc. In order to help me in my testing, my dog Doc, jumped up on me while I was wearing the jacket, using his extra sharp long claws (hmm someone needs his nails cut) to further test the fabric. Still no rips, tears, or abrasion showing! I call that a win!

The hydrophobic down definitely seemed to do it's job in the precipitation and I experienced no loss in loft or warmth in more intense precipitation. Since the jacket did well at shedding water, the down never got fully submerged and never wet-out - so I can't get into full details about the ability for the down to recover from that level of wetness.

The construction as a whole is clearly well done and the design is clearly well thought through. The zippers are chunky enough that I never struggled to get the jacket zipped, and the zipper pulls are long and hefty enough to support putting the jacket on with gloves without adding unnecessary weight. The cinch cord along the bottom is easy to use (again easy with gloves too) and works well at cutting out any air seeping in from the bottom.

The pockets are roomy enough (But they could alllllways be bigger if you ask me!) and the interior pocket is large and very functional. I like that it was strategically put along the waist, not the chest - meaning if you put something in the pocket, you don't get stuck with awkward bulges in the chest area! (Note: this is referred to as a chest pocket in the description but it is not entirely accurate as to the location!)

The cuffs along the arms are comfortable and simple. The baffles are well made and overall the jacket has enough poof to be effective but not so much that you look like a marshmallow!

One thing that can be tricky with all Rab products is sizing because they use European sizing - so be sure to pay attention to size charts and realize that the sizing is different!

This jacket is definitely a slim/trim fit - so if you want to layer under, I'd recommend going a size up. However, this fit combined with the puff of the jacket means it easily fits under a hard shell - allowing you to be warm and entirely protected from all extreme weather!

Perfect combination of warmth and weight

I bought one for my wife & she loves it!

I bought this jacket for my wife, so she would let me have mine back, and she loves it. I have been wearing the mens version of this jacket for the past 5 years and I love it. Warm and Light. I'm excited to see that this jacket has the new down moisture coating on it. She loves her new jacket, it looks cute on her, and its warmer than anything she has ever owned. I can even turn the heat off in the car now. :)

      Love it!

I am 5'0", 100 lbs, I bought the XS in Orchid and the jacket fits perfectly. Beautiful color, high quality, well made and shaped, feminine fit. Not as warm as I expected but I live in San Francisco and it is great to wear around town.
