Why We Like The Kinetic 2.0 Pant

Sporadic showers don't stand a chance against the Kinetic 2.0 Pants. Their waterproof membrane repels heavy downpours to keep us warm and dry. Though the membrane locks moisture out, the pants are incredibly breathable, letting us break a sweat without overheating on the mountain. These pants are designed with features that enhance mobility, durability, and fit, so we make sure we have them close for our alpine adventures.

Essential Item For Dartmoor

My original reason for buying this was for occasional use for when rain looks possible. But living near and hiking on Dartmoor with its changeable and frequently wet weather I've ended up wearing these most times I hike during the cooler months. Perfect for October to March but far too warm for the summer. I mostly wear just the pants and find them perfectly fine next to the skin. In close to zero or colder temperatures I wear Rab Power Stretch Pro Pants which are very warm. Or if cool but not freezing then a thin merino wool legging. Above 14 degrees and sunny these are just too warm. They keep me dry in most conditions but not a replacement for an over trouser if its hammering down with rain. Their biggest issue is the zipped fly - which badly leaks water if it's more than a short heavy shower. I wish they'd get rid of it, or I suppose I could buy the women's version but the fit would be off. Nice soft material and doesn't rustle like an over trouser. In fact they are just as comfortable as a normal hiking trouser but much more waterproof. I also have the matching Kinetic jacket which is also pretty amazing. I've knocked off one star because: 1) The leaking fly 2) Very expensive! Never the less well recommended if you live somewhere cool and wet.

Rab Pro Flex trousers

I love Rab clothing and their jackets are fabulous. I have a down one and it’s still going strong after many years. However, the RAB Pro Flex trousers are terrible! They’re lovely for walking in but the waterproof quality is virtually zero in driving rain. Not particularly forceful driving rain either. They keep the rain out for 5 minutes at the most, then are just soaked through. I have non-waterproof trousers from another company that keep rain out longer than the RAB ones.

Best waterproof pants I’ve owned

These are incredible, in the past I had waterproof trousers that I’d pull on over my normal trousers, if you know it’s going to rain you can just wear these from the off, really light and comfortable and a great cut.

Exactly what I needed

Always hated wearing overtrousers but walking in Scotland there is a lot of rain! I got these hoping I'd be able to wear them on their own as a waterproof option that was still breathable. So far they have done exactly that, had them on for a very wet trip up Nevis and for some hills in Kintail. Kept cool enough when it was dry and held of the water when it rained! Very pleased with how they have performed so far 😁

Excellent product

Bought a pair as I was very impressed with the Kinetic jacket. Wore the pants on a Bank Holiday weekend in Snowdonia. Saturday, Snowdon, breezy, pants warm and very breathable worn next to the skin. Sunday, Moel Siobod, persistent rain and strong breeze, pants warm, dry, very breathable. Lining is soft so pants can be worn next to the skin as well as over other pants. Very impressed by their performance.

The fit and quality is great. Personally I would have preferred a button fastening waist band like the Kinetic 1.0 I am replacing.
