    Winter's best friend.

If you want a jacket that can keep up with you all winter, no matter if you’re going to big drop hunting at the resort or just planning on pulling an all-nighter to go bar hopping for your buddy’s birthday, look no further than the Rab Men’s Axion Jacket. Think of the Axion as your winter friend that shows up just for the season and is ready to go for any activity. The hydrophobic down packed underneath the water resistant outer shell makes sure you stay warm when things get wet. Even as the weather starts to show signs of humidity, synthetic insulation in the hood and cuffs step up to provide shelter from the cold.

    • A winter insulated jacket to shelter you from the cold
    • Water-resistant outer wards off the cold when it starts to rain
    • Hydrophobic down provides warmth even when its wet
    • Helmet compatible hood comes with a wired peak for better visibility
    • Two-way front zipper features soft chin guard
    • Pocket zippers are designed to help prevent water leaks
    • Cuffs, hood, and hem are all adjustable with a drawcord
    • Item #RAB00G8

    All The Features

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size

Pros: the jacket has every feature you'd want in a technical mt jacket: stiff peak hood that's helmet compatible, easy to zip, wonderful cuffs where the velcro is actually cut in a slight crescent (instead of a rectangle) so that it lies perfectly on the wrist, double zipper, fleece lining by the face, and draw cords to lock in the heat. I may have missed a few. It's also wonderfully warm. I could walk around in the 20s (mild wind) with a T-Shirt and be toasty.

Cons: the fit is why I love and dislike this jacket. If you are just doing mountain stuff and therefore only wear other technical gear under it (I usually do a quarter zip wool shirt, a Patagonia R1, and maybe a shirt or vest), then it's perfect. But if you wear more under it, say a suit into work (also what I do) then there's not enough room under the jacket, especially in the armpits—and I have tooth pick, sinewy arms—and it becomes too tight and uncomfortable. (I wish it fit slightly looser, like my Patagonia Nano-Puff, which I wear in a small [I'm 5'10 and 135lbs].)

So I'm not going to be keeping it because it's not a quiver-of-one-jacket for me. I'm only a weekend warrior who needs a jacket to bridge the city life (with the suit under) and the outdoors (frigid belays). (Maybe I'll just have to get two different jackets one of these winters.)
