I went back and forth a lot between the North Face XL Base Camp and the Patagonia Black Hole- I work professionally as a guide so I need gear that can put up with a beating. I'm usually a big patagonia supporter (when it's on sale...) due to their environmental initiatives but after doing a lot of research I settled on this bag because it seemed to be the more indestructible of the two. This bag is HUGE-which is awesome. I can literally put everything and anything I could conceivably need in it and the material is really durable. The patagonia black hole bag just seemed a little flimsy and also had the brand written across it in big bold letters- sometimes I work in very rural, very poor areas and I would not blame anyone for stealing a bag that is clearly expensive. Even though the north face branding is apparent on one end of the bag, it is far more subtle than the patagonia branding. This bag can hold 65L backpacking backpacks, sleeping bags, rockclimbing gear, horse tack- you name it and it can fit it (with the exception of a western saddle but let's not get too carried away)- anyway, the bag is great, I got the black with highlighter yellow borders for visibility and I'm looking forward to taking this bag anywhere and everywhere- btw don't worry about the size if it seems too big- it has compression straps. The only con is that it does not fold down very small but that is to be expected with durable fabric so I cannot discount it for that.
