How much do these weigh?
Was looking for a way to add warmth, as I predominately only ride or tour with shells even when its super cold out, and wearing a bunch of layers or taking off/adding long underwear leg layers during the day can be a real pain. For a recent trip in Canada, was so cold I had so many layers on I felt like the Stay Puff marshmallow man, which prompted this purchase. Have been looking at various solutions, including making my own (added some side zippers to some heavyweight leggings), but nothing was quite working right. So far, this is the best solution I have found! But, Backcountry.... I really wish you would make a few improvements:
- Offer a shorter length option, I am 5'2" and have to fold up about 5 inches of pant length which is not ideal and it gets caught or pulled up over my knee
- Please make these much more stretchy (at least in zones) and come up just a touch higher for waist rise
- The pocket is pretty much useless, so could lose it
- The snaps/zippers aren't the easiest, but seem to be pretty secure
Overall, would love to see some improvements, but so happy I purchased this. Will be editing mine to shorten them since that is quite a problem for me when I can dig out my sewing machine.
So, I was looking for a backpacking knife with a saw and saw this and thought it could be great. However, it was a bit misleading that this is not a folding knife at all, instead it is a single two edged blade (one side knife blade one side saw) that rotates, so you always have out either the knife or the saw blade. This doesn't work for me but may be be great for someone else, so I am returning.
When you need crampons, you really NEED crampons... I purchased these for backcountry split-boarding tours and they have been great so far. Excellent purchase with each step. My only complaint is that the long straps can get in the way and they also can loosen up the crampons sometimes. I end up tucking the ends into my pant's cuffs, but wish there was a more secure form of lock. Still, this is minimal and I am very happy with my purchase!
I highly prefer thin socks in my snowboard and ski boots, for me that allows the boots to fit better and hold my foot better. These socks are great, they don't shift around, they feel nice, and they are super cute. Definitely recommend! The only little thing I noticed is I can sometimes feel the end seam of the toe-box but it doesn't bother me.
I'm a short female (5'2"), and these socks were more than an inch too tall for me, and bunched up accordingly behind my knees. Otherwise they didn't shift around any and the cushion was good, but I also really didn't notice any advantage to these over other thinner ski/snowboard socks I own. I was hoping the compression might be helpful for long days, however, just didn't work out for me. Additionally. I ordered both these socks and the same brand's travel socks for a big ski trip overseas, where I wore these and the others just twice, and they are already pilling and showing signs of wear. Maybe they work better for others, but just didn't work for me.
I ordered these and expected them to be their thin socks, but it appears I put the wrong ones in my cart at checkout... I confused them with the shortcake ultralight and didn't notice until receiving them. They appear to be plush, warm, and really cute and would be great for anyone that wants a thicker volume sock in their ski or snowboard boots. I will be returning for thinner socks.
I wanted to love these but not sure how I feel about them now, they seemed to check most of the right boxes for what I was looking for... easy on/off layering during activity (the different colored zippers are great!), boot length, heavier weight... but really they just weren't exactly what I wanted. I had expected the wool would've been heavier weight than their fleece just guessing based on cost, but I am not sure that is the case (I have not seen the fleece), but the wool version just wasn't very thick, more of a mid-weight and its not as soft as other brands. Also, the top band elastic is pretty tight. the legs fit me great but not in the waist, would be better for someone that is more hourglass figure I suppose. And lastly, for the cost, think I will keep looking.
Loving this jacket... been fantastic so far! Its warm, comfy, and a great layer to keep you outside no matter the conditions. Bonus, its also cute. You can't go wrong with this piece.
Sizing wise, the small fit me great, however I wanted more room to move in it as I wanted the piece for snowboarding and skiing along with just normal wear, so I sized up to the Medium which isn't too baggy, and allows good motion even with a few layers underneath.
Band size was great, styling was great, and coverage would have been great for someone with a little smaller chest. For me, 32/34 DD/D it did not work out, as the straps pulled it funny on my back and was not quite enough fabric on the front just by about a band width.
Super cute jacket, really love Volcom's style as always, but this jacket was just way way too long for me (I'm 5'2"). Already being short this jacket hit me only about 2 inches above my knees which seemed like it would hamper movement and make hiking difficult, as well as so much fabric made it fairly heavy. Would love to see Volcom make a petite version of this for us shorter ladies. Also, the medium was big on me, I wanted room to layer which would have made it perfect in size, but be aware if you don't plan on having a puffy under, it might run a bit large.
