mikeszmaida's Bio

Originally from North Jersey but transplanted to the mountains of CO after finishing College with a degree in Ex Sci and have been having a difficult time staying inside long before that. The decision to move west was really inspired by watching a Warren Miller movie and getting an idea of where some of these activities might take me.

I have purchased a few fall Raven products now and am very pleased with the overall construction of the pieces I have. The only drawback is they tend to be a bit baggy. But that being said they are very easy to layer and I have been able to get them tailored a bit for a more precise fit on the items that I would not think to layer on a regular basis. Love the customizable weight of the g1000 fabric with the Greenland wax too! Super durable even with tailoring done.

Picked up a set of these for a transition patrol build based on the factory recommendations this year and have not been disappointed at all. The feedback and reach/grab point adjustments are fantastic without having to go overboard on price. Then they even keep your bars super clean with the intuitive mounting options!

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have a set of these for commuting but only use them to increase my visibility. I still ride with an LED headlamp. The beam from the headlight is not the strongest but the taillight does throw off a good amount of light and is especially attention getting in the strobe mode.

great tire that just really digs into any terrain you throw at it! Definitely slower on pavement than a harder compound rubber but will really let you get into the corners when the surface gets looser. I put about 50-60 miles on these in the first two days I had them on and loved every minute of it! During those two days we rolled over everything from moon dust to road. Definitely worth the price!

The best part about this rack is that it is thule and surprisingly cheap! I just drove from NJ to CO in a very roundabout route and still have all three bikes I started the journey with. It is super light but shockingly strong. One of the bikes I was transporting is an older specialized BigHit DH and is a very solidly built bike. There are a few negatives though. I found that it rubs on the top of my rear hatch so maybe some padding under the straps will help. Also the placement/spacing of the bikes is very important but can shift slightly on extended road trips. It should also fit fairly universally but check the thule approved applications and if you can test fit it before buying/using.

Pick up a pair of these around the sni-a-grab extravaganza in denver about two years back and love the ease of use when I want to go on a quick side-country. no issues with the glue with regular maintenance but really needs to be at least a little warm to adhere properly. Gets the job done.

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've used this guy here and there with a friend on some short side-country tours and am vey pleased with its performance. No effects from normal altitudes (up to 11k). Last trip made some oatmeal and hot chocolate before our initial decent and there were no problems bringing everything to a boil.
