Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size
The Prana Monarch pants have been my go to hiking pants for years! The style has changed a little bit from previous years, but the changes seem to have improved the pants. Instead of snap closures on the back pockets, there is now one regular back pocket and one with a zipper. The previous snap closures looked great, but often got caught on things and weren't very durable when sliding on rocks and such. The waist is also a bit slimmer than previous years, which for me was perfect, I don't have to wear a belt anymore. Now to the reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars. I first ordered these pants in an 8 regular (in previous years models I usually wore a 6 or 8 reg.) and when they arrived I could barely get them on they were so tight. I checked the tag- sure enough- 8 regular. The inseam was supposed to be 32 inch, but I measured it and it was 30 inches. That pair was sent back and I ordered a different pair same color, same size. This time the pants fit very similar to previous years models, baggy legs with a slightly slimmer waist. The inseam measured 31.5 inches (not 32 as advertised) but its close enough for me, as my inseam is just under 32 inches. It seems that there is some inconsistent sizing so you may want to try on 2 sizes if you haven't ordered them before. I'd give a 5 star review if Prana could fix the problems with inconsistent sizing!
