Beautifully designed and made. The cloth exterior has a soft feel that is hard to describe, almost like cotton silk. The only downside--it is a magnet for dog and cat hair! The styling reminds me of the traditional chinese work coat. Utilitarian, comfortable, but elegant. I had some doubt about how warm it would be, but it is surprisingly so. Perfect for activity outside when it is cold but not cold enough for the down sweater jacket. I wish it came in more neutral colors for women...a dark grey, for example, or an army green. I also wish Patagonia would consider a different approach to the labels on their down sweaters and nano-line. They are great technical wear, as usual, but also quite expensive. They could form a niche part of the Patagonia brand that could also be worn more fashionably, but the same-old Patagonia tag right on the front of the jacket, and the typical "sporty" color choices confine the look to sportswear.

I wanted to love these boots. They are extremely well-made and the quality of materials top-notch. I really liked the shearling as opposed to fake fur. I was hoping the all-black look would be neutral but still have some visual impact. Unfortunately I think they need a bit more contrast (white rubber trim could be whiter, or with a bit of sparkle? Or white shearling cuffs maybe?) to make them stand out. They also were extremely uncomfortable! I am a size 9 narrow, and often wear 8 1/2 because my feet are so narrow, but I ordered the 9 in these boots after reading some reviews. Unfortunately they have a severely short and rounded toe-box, and weren't long enough for me. They were also a bit wide, so the 9.5 would have been too large. They are very heavy...which I think is more due to the brass than anything else. The heel-height and thickness of the sole were also not what I thought they would be...pretty much flat, and the sole felt a little thin for walking in snow! The heaviest part of the boot is actually the shaft...and all those lovely brass fittings. Also the boot shaft was very stiff and uncomfortable to walk in.
