BOA Broke After Limited Use
1 5

Familiarity: I've used it several times

The BOA system for the walk mode broke on my boots after limited use. When they were working I absolutely loved them. I have ThirtyTwo TM2 boots for inbounds, and so these Jones MTBs were a natural fit to go BC. The walk mode works great, making for a comfortable ascent, until the BOA breaks and leaves your boot sloshy.

It's been slow getting a resolution from ThirtyTwo on these. I'm on my third week trying to get a resolution from them. I've gotten the run-around trying to get these fixed. There doesn't seem to be any sense of urgency at ThirtyTwo to get me back up and running with fixed or new boots.

I've also been reading a lot of similar stories about the walk-mode BOA breaking on these boots.

Before buying these ask yourself if you want something that apparently wasn't designed well, wasn't tested thoroughly, and isn't supported very well when it does break.

Note that BOA was extremely responsive when I contacted them, and did send me parts to attempt to upgrade these to a spectra, but the kit doesn't fit the way these boots are built.

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got this hoping for a big mountain and powder board that would be Ok on groomers. What I ended up with is an amazing board that excels on groomers and hard pack and floats pretty well in powder and is a fraking beast on steeps. The camber that runs under the meat of the board along with the magnetraction (marketed as magtek) feels very solid even in crappy conditions. The nose rocker pops up well in powder, and the tail slot seems to help too. The sintered base is fast if you take care of it, and it seems pretty tough based on a couple of very close encounters with rocks. It rides longer at speed and shorter in trees. Turn initiation is responsive, fast but predictable. The nose rocker sounds and looks a bit chattery at speed, but doesn't seem to impact the performance.

I have been nothing but impressed with this deck. It is my go-to for all conditions now. It is pretty stiff, so I would only recommend this for advanced to expert riders. Rosignol wasn't the first brand I thought of for a new board, but they made one hell of an amazing ride with Xavier De La Rue's pro model XV Magtek.

I recently picked up a pair of the Saucony running pants from backcountry.com and after a few runs in them I've ordered a second pair. They're fairly skin tight but don't feel restrictive, and warm enough for freezing temperatures. I've already tried them on under another pair of pants, and my running shorts fit over them as well. They offer a lot of flexibility for different running conditions.

I purchased this jacket so I could have a soft shell for those days I didn't need/want a hard shell snowboarding. I have worn this skinning and riding, and love it for those uses. However, I have also used it as a daily jacket and took it on a 3 week trip into a sometimes very rainy northern Europe. I stood out in the rain for quite a while on one particular day as our local guide in Oslo talked for way too long, and didn't even get a hint of wet. On my trip it was comfy for a wide range of temperatures, and so was a great jacket for packing light.
