Anywhere in the mountains

Gerald E.'s Bio

I've been backpacking since I was a teenager, when I lived near the Washington Cascades, and now my own kids are teenagers or beyond, and the mountains have never lost their allure. I recently moved to Utah, and I'm excited about the opportunity to get to know some more mountain ranges.

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I found this tent easy to set up and with plenty of room inside for four people (three side by side with one person on the end) with room left for some gear. And it's tall enough that it's possible to comfortable get dressed and that sort of thing.

I can't claim to have used this in rough weather, but it certainly looks like it would hold up well in anything short of a hurricane or blizzard.

While its design is nothing extraordinary, I do like the way the support poles are connected together as well as the double door and the vestibules. This would be a great tent for a family or to take on group outings. At less than nine pounds, it's also lightweight for its capacity, making it suitable for both backpacking and car camping.

I would recommend getting the optional footprint, which is made to clip directly into the same straps as are used to hold the poles in place.

I used the footprint with the Escalante four-person tent, and while there's not much to say about most footprints (it's basically a piece of fabric between the tent and the ground), I like the way this one was made specifically for the tent. The straps clipped into straps on the tent (the ones the poles fit into), so the footprint functions as an integrated part of the tent. It seems plenty sturdy and will provide the tent floor with all the protection it needs.

Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I was very disapointed because I loved these shoes. Lengthwise they fit great, but they were way too narrow for my feet, so I had to return them. I don't think I have super wide feet, but these made me feel like it. That being said the quality seemed great and I loved the way they looked.

Fit: True to size
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 185 lbs
Size Purchased: 34

Volcom usually fits pretty tight for me, but these have a much more relaxed fit. I've only worn them once, but I have enjoyed them so far. Comfy. Dressy. Not bad at all.
