Arva 32 L Reactor
5 5

Familiarity: I've used it several times

The 32 L Reactor is a perfect airbag pack for backcountry touring. It comfortably holds the necessary gear for a day tour (extra puffy, food, water/tea, goggles, first aid kit) as well as the complement of snow safety tools I use each day (shovel, probe, saw, snow study kit). The pack rides very well and overall is light for an avalanche airbag pack. The ability to dry fire the bag is a good way to practice using the pack without deploying the airbag. I also like how once the canister is loaded, the pack is armed and ready for deployment. I've used several different airbags over the years, and the Arva 32L Reactor is the best I've ever used. A bit of advice when choosing a canister - I suggest the gas cylinder as it is a bit lighter and has a smaller profile than the compressed air cylinder.

Really like the new design - lighter, greater range, thumb loop, longer to reach deeper into cracks. Plus, the consistent 13.75 degree camming angle has over 30 years of field-tested results. New cams feel great in your hands and the camming action is smooth. I've tried a bunch of different camming devices over the years, and the new Helium Friends are the best design I've ever seen.
