Familiarity: I've used it several times
We purchased the shadow mountain at the beginning of the summer. I really like the design. It provides enough shade to sit comfortably with a cooler and a couple of chairs. It is also tall enough to put a small table and cook standing up while the stove is being protected from the wind.
However, the manufacture and quality of the product is not what I expected. On our first outing, one of the sand bags that prevent the tent from moving ripped off so that it was no longer attached to the tent. The same happened to two other sand bags on subsequent outings. The corners where the polyethelene meets the longest pole and the canopy tore out on both sides of the tent approximately 4 inches on each side. And finally, the elastic inside the fiberglass pole snapped (in many tents this elastic can be replaced but in this case, the end caps have been crimped and the elastic does not seem to be replaceable )
I usually take very good care of my gear and I expected this to last much longer than 5 outings. I have had tent from a different manufacturer for 9 years and it is still in great shape.
I would not recommend this to a friend.
