It's 100% no Doubt the best lightweight shell on the market, hands down. I cannot describe in words the awesomeness of this jacket. Black diamond is using this Swedish company and the fabric is amazing!!! it's naturally water resistant and every time you wash the fabric it regains its water resistance so it's not a chemical that's sprayed on like all the other water-resistant jackets, that eventually wears off, this fabric is created with a natural plant based nanoparticle that is water resistant. And the winning touch, mechanical stretch...Perfect lightweight windbreaker/shell.

This jacket is an improvement from the Patagonia Nanopuff because it doesn't have all that stitching. This creates larger air pockets in the jacket thus creating a larger thermal layer to trap body heat and warm you up. Also, the stitching squares aren't there to get snagged on things. The jacket has a little extra insulation on the front body which I am not complaining about. I have at least 3 RAB jackets and they are VERY high quality but keep in mind, they are a European company so it will have a left-handed zipper and European cut.

This jacket is really a great all around quality down jacket. It has 800 fill down and the down doesn't ever come out of the jacket like other high fill jackets and the outer shell is pretty strong unlike other "lightweight" down jackets. There is only one thing I would like changed on this and I can say this about all mountain hardwear jackets, is that they should have a more ergonomic fit rather than the boxy it they usually have. Other than that I love this jacket is is the perfect lightweight down jacket and I have had ALL of them!

P.S. I've probably had 10 mountainhardwear different technical jackets throughout the years and they've always been on point never had a quality issue, I literally trust them with my life.

Like my Montane Prism jacket, this Montane down jacket is superb. A FEW notches above the competitors. The 800+ fill down combined with the pullover design makes the jacket SOOOOO warm it's unbelievable. I love it. The Pertex Quantum is super strong and quite thick compared to the average pertex. 3 point hood adjust and hem adjustment too. If you are looking for a mountain layer (down feathers), look no further. I purchased mine from France a few years ago before they were in America. Montane sizing is a little smaller,, plus it's a pullover so you should size up one. Backcountry's description of the jacket doesn't give any of the real details that show the quality of the jacket so I would read up on it on another site if you have any doubts.

This pullover is awesome because it uses 800 fill down, and A LOT OF IT. I mean they stuffed this with 800 fill as much as the other companies stuff a jacket with 650 fill. It must be AT LEAST 4oz of down. It is VERY warm and light weight and because it's a pullover, heat doesn't escape like it would with a full zipper front. The pertex quantum outer fabric is really very durable and lightweight and the jacket has all the pull string adjustments you would want on the hem and hood. This is the perfect mountain down jacket because the down is very warm and the pullover is perfect for trapping heat in.

This jacket is a perfect TECHNICAL mid-layer. A lot of people are reviewing, saying, the jacket has a design flaw with the armpits. But, I can confirm, it is NOT a problem. The jacket is a TECHNICAL jacket with complete range of motion in the arms, so, it will fit like a climbing layer. If you have a regular shirt on underneath, the jacket will seem to have a problem in the armpits, but it is really your undershirt that is NOT A TECHNICAL fit that is bunching up underneath the jacket. So, if you are planning to wear the jacket around town more than climbing and backpacking you might have a problem. If you are looking for a technical down jacket that you are going to wear a technical base layer underneath, this jacket is awesome and very durable. I am 6 1

At first I was bummed out because of no pit zips but after I experienced the breathability of gore tex active pit zips are a thing of the past. No pit zips needed. This jacket is awesome and it even has a little stretch. I can't express the breathability of this jacket enough. Outdoor research has the infinite guarantee as well. can't go wrong!

Awesome, warm, synthetic parka to wear over your shell on cold belay duty. This has two layers of 80 grams primaloft silver in the body and one layer everywhere else. Truly a gift to have in cold weather. If you need a parka for wet/damp weather look no further.

Mountain Hardwear ends up impressing me each time I purchase their merchandise. They have the mountaineering game figured out, and the Thermostatic jacket is just one example. The jacket has the best breathability of a light synthetic I have ever used, and the warmth to weight ratio is perfect.

It's a funny story. I starting using it because it was my LEAST favorite at first, so I figured I'd wear it out quick. Then after experiencing the functionality of it, I fell in love with it. The jacket is simple and perfect. I will pay full price if I have to for as long as it is on the market.

I could make a very detailed review with ALL the positive features of this jacket but I do believe I have been beaten to the punch. So, I will sum everything up as best I can. This jacket has been completely thought out PERFECTLY. The stretch panels make it so the range of motion is not restricted at all. The Swiss wool insulation is cool when overheating and warm when your body heat is dropping, wool is the amazing natural insulator. Also, keeps one warm when wet. The attention to detail is perfect without even an out of place stitch. Ortovox has hit a grand slam with this jacket. Great stand alone piece and tailored to wear as midlayer too. I'm pretty sure this jacket will make it to first place as anyone's midlayer as long as you are using it for any mountain activities. I would pay full price for the jacket if I had to now that I have used it

This jacket has a forever place in my gear collection because of how versatile it is. Montane's jackets are all well thought out and are high quality. I also have some of their down jackets and all of their gear is well-thought-out for Mountaineering.
