Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

My first blow up. Used this twice so far, I think one side leaks, I'll give it a third shot tomorrow and exchange it if it does. Nothing worse than being woken in the night and needing to add about 10-15 breaths to one side. When it's full it's comfortable as I sleep on my side. it's actually a little too insulated from the ground on those hot summer nights, It's better than the self inflating one I had before this.

I need a wider pad. I sleep on both my side, centered on the mat, then roll to my back, falling half off the pad. This kept waking me.

I was able to inflate it enough to be comfortable on the side, but it began to feel like a balloon. Again, just me.

My sleeping bag is a bit slippery, and would slide off the pad.

I'm going with something 30" wide (maybe Klymit) give how much I turn.

I am short, but a bit overweight, so I don't care about the length. I'm also car camping solo in a 2person, so size is not an issue.

Tip: you need not be strong to repack it. start with a 3" fold at the bottom, kneel on it, press your hands also agains the fold. Quickly turn , then repeat. I can compress it smaller than the sack, so I've not had any problem.

Othewise, nice bag, at a competitive price, but I have to return it for a wider one.

Familiarity: I've used it several times

After a very serious non-ski crash, I was looking for the best alpine skiing protection I could find. One more crash could be my last, but I'm not giving up the sport. I've used it about 10 ski days last season.
Pros
* The technology is the most attractive, nobody else has anything like it. Eclipses all my other comments.
*Has a bit more hard shell protection short of a race helmet.
*Looks cool
* Warm enough
* good fit
* goggles are compatible. mostly.
Have not tried it on our uber-cold (below 0*F days) yet. I've always used my race helmet on those days. We'll see.
*vents are nearly flush - keeps the snow out of the recessess when I take a dump.

Cons
* Goggle clip on back is useless. My gogs don't have rubber on them. So I glued some velcro to the helmet.
* Vent system should be externally adjustable
* Audio system is way too expensive. I'll buy it for half that price.

I'd give it five stars if it fixed the two other cons or gave me a price break on the audio!

I analyze things a bit too much. Like helmets and snow conditions. Then again, after my little crash, I take no more chances. I was looking for the best possible protection for Alpine skiing. Let's put it this way, I don't usually ski slow. For this day in time, this helmet is the is at the top of the pack. Since you don't know until it's too late, the least I could do is make sure it has as many defensive mechanisms as possible. Concussion is to of the list. The MIPS, the teflon layer and ABS were impressive. Very thoughtfully designed. I could have purchased a helmet for less than half the price, but why take a chance?

Make sure you put safety first. I'm not sure people's issues with comfort; I don't doubt them. I do wonder if they gave the helmet enough time on their noggin. Walk around the house with it for a half hour. Both your head and the foam needs to adjust to each other. I'm happy to have a snug helmet - the safer you are. BTW, I have an extremely fat head - the XL was the only size for me.

Now, the negatives. I am spoiled by my Giro's ventilation on the fly switch. I do perspire a lot; it would be nice not to have to take it apart. I knew that going into this, so it's not a complaint.

My biggest beef is the earphones. I know companies make a lot of money on options. But geeze, nearly half the price of the helmet? I do love my giro/SkullCandy combo. If you guys would knock the price in half, I'd think about it.
I have NOT skied with it yet. It should get a good shake down in a couple days, so I'll let you know then.

It gets five stars for now. I'll weigh in on the stars next week.
More info next week.
