I wanted a synthetic insulation vest that I could put through the ringer, both as a light layer in ~50 degree city weather, and colder climes when exercising. I was hesitant to buy a Backcountry brand piece having not used or seen one in the wild, but at 50% off, had to give it a try. Would gladly have paid full price given how good a piece it's been. It's stylish to boot. I'd go large in a jacket form, but in the vest, it wasn't too tight in my shoulders or underarms in M (unlike lots of long sleeve items can be with my build). Two thumbs way up!

Absolutely love this jacket. I wanted something that could handle 30-50 degrees in NYC with only a shirt underneath. I also wanted a synthetic that could stand up to wind and rain (not a deluge, obviously, but more water resistant than a Nano or Ventrix) without having to put a shell on for 5-10 minute walks outdoors. It's seen 30mph winds, steady rain and snow, and has held up to all with aplomb. I can't really speak to its qualities in the backcountry or while active (yet), but for what I wanted, it's a great piece. Super versatile, warm and comfy without fearing for its durability like I do with my Nano Air (one of my favorite jackets ever, but it does feel vulnerable to snags, etc.). It's as close to a do-everything jacket as I could hope for here.

To the fit, the arm holes are kinda tight, so I would recommend sizing up if you're in between sizes. My L fits great, and i'm usually a M in jackets, so knowing that going in, I was happy with what I got for sure. 5'10", 185, built like a wrestler with large chest and shoulders, and the L still fit fine.
