The mountains are my home.
The thought of a twenty mile run on the appalachain trail makes me smile. The thought of another AT thru-hike makes my heart race...!!
I am currently living in north Georgia training for my next challenge... a 60 day unsupported thru-hike of the appalachain trail. I have thru-hiked the AT three times so far and am looking forward to many more. You can learn more about me and my next challenge at www.natureboyhiking.com
I ran the Pinhoti 100 for my first ultra event, and now i am an addict..!! I have several more ultras lined up including Georgia's first 100 miler.
I am driven to find out how far my body and mind will go. How far past the line can I push. I am always looking for my next challlenge.
The Litter Leash is Genius...!!!
I tried my first Clifbar Clif Shot Energy Gel (Citrus, a flavor not listed by backcountry) and loved it...!! It reminded me of the filling inside a lemon doughnut. It was a little thicker than other gels, but it still had a good texture and was easy to eat. Great energy boost and they Litter Leash is brilliant...
23 hours of running through ankle deep mud, 19 hours of runnning in the rain, but they survived all the punishment that the GUTS Reactor Run 100 miler could dish out.... !!
There are 6-5oz bottles per refill box...2 are missing in this picture.. :)
I have never worn toe sock before, is there an adjustment period..?
Has anyone used these socks for training, 100+ miles a week...?? If so what kind of life expectancy do they have...?
Has anyone retired a pair of these..? I'm wondering how many trail running miles they will last for.
How hot will the glass shield get..?
Has anybody used this product on a down sleeping bag...?? Will it damage the outer fabric or the down..
I did a couple runs and tried out the vanilla flavor. Wow..did it taste great, reminded me of white cake batter.. The consistency was pretty thin, easy to digest, and not too sweet. My stomach loved them, great energy boost without any upset stomach side effects.
5 oz. of vanilla gel (400 calories)
I love my Outdoor Research cap..!! It is perfect for me when I do a trail run, or if I'm just sitting around the house. It has a very comfortable fit, and it wicks mosture away from my melon while still keping it warm. I just finished a 12 mile run on the Appalachian Trail in the snow, and it worked like a champ... two thumbs up..!!
Yakima rain gutters are very simple to install. I installed them on a 15 passenger super duty passenger van without using any fowl language..!! They installed quickly and securely, and the rubber gasgets keep them from scatching your paint job. You can also plug in a lock so that no one can walk away with your racks..!! A great product that is well worth the money...
After my first thru-hike my bag smeled like...well lets just say it smelled bad. I purchased a silk liner to keep my body oils and funk off of my bag, and it worked great. It is much easier to wash a liner than a sleeping bag. In cold weather my liner adds about 5 extra degrees of warmth to my bags rating, and in warm weather I sleep in my liner on top of my sleeping bag. This silk liner is light weight and packs down extremely small, actually I keep it in side of my bag when I stow it in my backpack. A great product that I highly recommend, and your sleeping bag will love you for it..!!
The Yakima Rattler Wheelstrap's are very simple to use and to install. They release easily and the ratcheting style make's it a breeze to lock down your rear wheel. I love em'...!!
I recently outfitted a 15 passenger van to hold 12 bikes and 12 wheels. Yakima's wheel forks are crazy simple to install and use. The anti-spin devise applies enough pressure to keep the wheels from spinning, yet not enough to make it difficult when I attach a wheel. People have commented about the forks tilting back on them while driving, I have not had any issues so far, but I will keep a close eye on it.
I spend the last couple days outfitting two vans with Yakima racks. These racks are a snap to install and set up..!! No tools are needed (except for a wrench that is included) and the instructions make it simple, even if you have never installed a bike rack system before. They have plenty of adjustment to fit almost any style bike (haven't figured out a way to secure a tandem yet), and once locked into place your bike is rock solid. A great product that is well worth the price tag..
Smart Wool makes great hiking and running socks. They have great wicking, are very comfy, and have a long life. I prefer the micro's over the mini's when I am running, they just feel more comfortable to me. Smart Wool's are among the best in my book..
