Osprey Exos 58
4 5

Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased this last year and have taken it on two trips. When I am carrying more gear for the younger members of our family, I carry the slightly larger Osprey Volt. The Exos 58 is very comfortable! I carried a max of 25 lbs in it. I like the airspeed suspension system. Easy to adjust and get a good fit, just like my other Opsrey packs. I like the zippered pocket under the lid for storing items I deem essential and want to find quickly

fast filtering

Not the lightest out there but filters water fast. My wife and son were using the MSR MiniWorks and both complained that it was slow. I filtered and filled two Nalgene bottles in the time they did one bottle. This filter is easy to take apart and clean. It has been on about 6 trips so far and I have not had any maintenance or other problems with the filter. We sold both of the MiniWorks and purchased two more of the Varios.

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Fit: True to size

I liked this jacket so much at first that I purchased two for myself (the Cinder from Backcountry and a blue one from another vendor, one for my youngest son and then one for my brother who was drooling over mine. I watched a few videos and read some reviews on it and decided to make the plunge. Nice colors, good fit, hood and Polartec Alpha Insulation. Thought it would be great for around town and also the trail. I received the jacket from Backcountry and wore it on a weekend trip to Ohio to see my daughter and noticed tears on the inside mesh when I returned. The only thing I can think is that the backpack I wore around the airport caused friction and the mesh to give and tear. The mesh is very thin and not durable. I also wore a hat that had a Velcro tab on the back and that stuck to the mesh and caused the mesh to fray. For me the mesh is the Achilles heal of this jacket and makes it unsuitable for the trail....and even for around town. I called Marmot and they said to send it in for inspection. They determined that it was not repairable and gave me credit towards another purchase. Very fair and I appreciate their willingness to do that. Have worn my blue one quite often and the mesh has minor frays in it but will keep it. The jacket I am reviewing is the original version.
