I Am The Captain Now
5 5

Familiarity: I've used it several times

I got the NRS Crux Drysuit for a cold, early-spring float down the Payette River. I don't know much about boats, and I dont know much about rivers, but I know a lot about being warm, and even more about fun, and I'll tell you what, I was warm, and fun.

That's me, pictured on the back of the boat, in the captain's seat, you see earlier in the day our boat ran into a little trouble, and the captain fell into the river. He was unable to perform his captain duties (being fun and being warm). I had to act fast, so I looked the man dead in the eye and said "look at me, I am the captain now", you know cuz I'm warm and fun...So long story short, if you want to be warm, and if you want to have fun, get you a NRS Crux Drysuit.

The suit fits true to size, is comfortable, and unbelievably warm.

I was looking for a cheap fleece pullover for a ski trip to Japan and so here we are. This pullover fits nicely, is warm, was cheap, and layers well. Also, way better quality than I was expecting. Great layer piece.

I took these out for a powdery/all-mtn day and they preformed very well. They float nicely in the pow, handle chop, and thrive on groomers. These guys whip around turns, they basically ski themselves. They are surprisingly lightweight and maneuverable, also very stiff, so if that's not your thing, think about it.

Pretty cool all around ski.

These poles are solid, strong, and stylish. The ergonomic handle offers a good gripping point, and the straps offer the protection you need to keep your poles with you all day. The S.R.S strap release system offers the safety you need in an emergency by releasing from the grip under tension.

I've tried this, and the The Tobe Vivid Mono Suit, although they're for different things, I think they provide similar protection. That said, the Helly Hansen ULLR Powder Suit is lighter and has better pockets. If you're between the two, you need to do a real cba, but if you listen to me, get this one.

It fits big, I usually wear a medium in things, I am able to wear a small and layer underneath with no problem.

Big In Japan

If you're gonna ski in Japan, it's gonna snow, it's gonna be cold, and you're gonna need gear that comes correct. It snows A LOT in Hokkaido, like they say it snows a lot in Hokkaido, but it snows more than that. The Tobe Vivid Mono Suit comes correct, it is warm, it's tough, and it provides the protection you need in the worst (best) of conditions.

The Tobe Vivid Mono Suit fits big, I am 5' 10" and a small fit well it also consumes a lot of bag space, so if you're traveling, consider that. Although I discovered a nifty way to store it, it stuffs well into the leg (see pictured). It is heavy, so if you're doing a lot of hiking this may not be the one. I also didnt love how small the pockets were. All in all though, if you're going hard this suit will match your intensity.

On December 13, 2016 I wrote this review for the men's version I bought for my brother, these words apply here too. I'll just replace select words to account for the difference in relationship.

"I bought this for my brother (girlfriend) for his birthday (her Christmas), and now he's(she's) the coolest son...Ok I don't think this is going to work. This is a dope sweater, we all already know it's a dope sweater, Patagonia is so cool that they can tell us not to buy their stuff and we'll buy more.

This looks cool, fits well, is warm. Buy it, or don't (you will)

@Patagonia you need an ad writer?

I took these on a work ski trip to Solitude and I gotta say, they're hella solid, dude...but to get out in front of it, when this ski daddy hunts down that sicky gnar pow lickety split, he doesn't wear a helmet and these goggles fit just fine. These days goggles are made to accommodate helmets and they fit funky when you don't wear them, but the XLs are the truth. So if you like to split deep steep in the trees for that double plank hoobastank face plant full of white snow danky dank, helmet free, these may be the goggles for you.

Also, Chromapop rocks.

I got this as a gift for a friend. She loves it, she keeps saying "it's so0o0o0 warm, and hip".

It stores nicely in its storage pouch and the 700 down fill provides an excellent loft to warmth ratio.

So I'd say if you want to warm and hip like my friend, this is a good choice.

Polarized lenses for $43.46? YES PLEASE!

These are stylish, affordable polarized sunnies for your everyday adventure. I bought them once, lost them, and here we are again. If you do manage to hold on to them long enough to need new lenses, you can buy replacement lenses for PENNIES on the dollar.

Good glasses.

I bought these for a trip to Paris in the winter.

They fit perfectly out of the box, they look dope, and they keep your feet warm and dry.

The Parisians were all like "tes chaussures sont super cool" and I was like, "hey, thanks" they responded with "apprendre à parler français" ...I don't know what that all means, but at least I look good!

I bought these for my dad for his birthday, he was like "nice". He likes them, they look good, they're burly, the Vibram IdroGrip sole clings to rocks, he sized up a full size and they fit great.

He's still not that good at fishing.

I took these down to the desert to do some bouldering, I drove my VW bus (1985 Vanagon), My friend and I made it without a problem. We bouldered for most of the day, the shoes held up well, they're aggressive, and surprisingly comfortable. They run a bit small, I got a half size bigger than I usually get. I had a fun day.

Then we went to move the Vanagon...IT DID NOT MOVE...my friend was unconcerned and went on to cook dinner, I had a panic attack and started rationing supplies. We eventually bump started the bus and drove straight home without stopping once.

Moral of the story buy these shoes, DON'T buy a VW bus!

Buffett Approved

I bought a few of these for the event of the year, the Jimmy Buffett concert at the Energy Solutions Vivint Smart Home Arena powered by Delta® (Utah Joke). The show was phenomenal, there was an extra bit of electricity in the air that night, now It may've been that the Coral Reefers came ready to rock (as usual), it could've been that this was the first Jimmy and they boys have been here in 27 years...but I like to think It was all thanks to the locked and loaded crew of men wearing their Stoic Blue Hawaiian Button-up Shirts. We've reviewed the concert footage, and there is a noticeable change in the room when Jimmy locked eyes with the Blue Hawaiian Boys®...I don't want to say that these shirts saved the show...but these shirts saved the show.

If you want to have a good time, ANY time, you better Walk (Don't Run) to your nearest computer and pick up one of these bad boys!

They fit true to size, and they look great.

Ladies love the Patagonia Black Hole (25L Back)Pack. Seriously, since I bought this, it has started at least one conversation for me with a women. That is 100% more conversations than I've had in the whole year previous, and it was because of the backpack. It's a real conversation starter.

I use it on my daily bike commute to work, Whole Foods, the bar, and back home. One day at the local Whole Foods a girl said, "nice pack" I said, "thanks, is the mochi good here?" she said, "yes", it was radical! That conversation alone was worth the price of this pack, but if that's not enough for you, here's some other neat stuff;
The secure and elegant laptop sleeve doubles as a hydration pocket for your favorite hydration bladder.
If you're a real water fan the stretch-woven side pockets are perfect water bottle holders.
And the heavy-duty molded back panel is nice on long rides.
Get this pack if you like water, and nice stuff.

I went fishing in Alaska.
It's cold in Alaska...It's so cold in Alaska.
It also rains a lot in Alaska, this is a great jacket for cold rainy Alaskan fly fishing expeditions. I am a big fan of the Gore-Tex Pro Shell fabric and the fishing specific pockets on this jacket.

My only complaint was the connection draw‐cord adjustable bottom hem ripped on the first day out on the water. Simms was happy to warranty the problem though and I haven't had a problem since.
