Tristan Hawes's Bio

I was born and raised in tropical Far North Queensland, Australia (where I still reside). I have been camping since i was less than a year old and have a natural affinity for the outdoors, particularly reptiles and arachnids (yes especially the venomous). I love hiking, snowboarding and rock climbing.

Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have been in need of a larger climbing pack for some time now and after quite a bit of research, it had to be this bag! I can fit all the gear I need for a whole day on the rock (Rope, chalk, harness',shoes, biners as well as a windbreaker some rain gear and food) with room to spare. The internal pockets are excellent for keeping your gear organised so you can grab gear in a hurry.

I bought this shirt so that I could compare Polartec's Power Dry fabric to other lightweight fabrics. This shirt is extremely light, has great ventilation, it dries in a flash and it doesn't smell nasty after use which all makes for a great shirt for Outdoor wear.

This is my second pair of climbing shoes and I bought these as a less aggressive shoe that I can wear all day bouldering. I sized these up a half size compared to my 5.10's and they fit great(but someone with a wider/larger foot may need to go up a full size). I haven't had any real trouble with the shoes smelling terrible after use though i generally use merino socks when i can (naturally antimicrobial). I would highly recommend these to any beginner climbers not looking to spend to much or who don't need an aggressive shoe.

I have owned one of these for over 12 months now and this is my go to hoody for just about everything be it casual wear, cool weather running or a midlayer for skiing. It has an extremely comfortable fit, breathes and wicks moisture like a beast and you just can't beat Merino wool. I wore this jacket every day for 2 weeks straight snowboarding in Japan and there was not any smell at all!

These were my first climbing shoe, and boy am I happy I didn't skimp out and buy a cheap pair. These are extremely comfortable shoes but they don't sacrifice performance for comfort. They don't stretch much, so you can size them in the shop and go with what feels best. The sole is extremely sticky and maintains stiffness. I have had these for over a year of hard use and are still in almost perfect condition. I would highly recommend this shoe!

There are no climbing gyms where I live, so when the weather doesn't play nice and I can't get to a rock wall, I at least have these to train on. They are great for improving contact, upper body and even core strengths. With great portability at a low price these are an excellent addition for any climber.

These shorts are an expensive harness but if you have the $$ you won't be disappointed. I am itching to try these on a long climb (I have been hampered by bad weather since i got these bad boys) but the comfort is second to none. I have worn these all day just as normal shorts/bouldering and I can barely even notice the harness, even while sitting. I will update this review after some extended time on the wall, but so far these are 10/10.

After extended use and time on the wall I can confirm these are the most comfortable harness I have ever owned and they are very durable.

The goggles themselves are great but the Mod is a complete waste of your time and money. I had setup and tested these goggles before leaving for my Ski Trip but when i got to the mountain the Mod completely failed. It has extremely poor battery life as well as the phone app randomly refuses to sinc with the device. simply put go with the I/O or I/OX forget the mod it is a cool idea but it simply does not perform.

Looks great, fits great and feels amazing, the merino wool is very soft. Superb quality from Mammut yet again.
