Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size

I bought this jacket about two years ago because it was on sale at REI. However, it has turned into my go-to jacket for backpacking and camping. I have brought it on many fall/ winter trips, and it is great. Paired with a longsleeve shirt and a Gore-Tex jacket, in kept me plenty warm while sitting through an outdoor leadership course this December. With temps in the 30's and 40's, I was comfortable.

However, this jacket has begun to leak a lot and the lightweight nylon exterior feels like it is just waiting to be shredded into pieces by the first tree branch it touches. This can be countered by wearing a soft or hard shell over it.

Bonus: It is extremely light and compressible.

Great for hiking

I bought these shoes because I am getting into lightweight backpacking, and didn't want to weigh myself down with traditional hiking boots.
Two days after I bought them, I brought them on a 26 mile backpacking trip in the Ouachita Mts. of Arkansas. It rained on and off for three days, and the waterproofing worked perfectly. I was even able to cross all of the creeks we encountered without getting any water inside.
The traction on these shoes is great. I was carrying about 25 lbs, and I had no problems, even on wet rocks and muddy trails.
On the last day of my trip, I completely submerged my feet, and after about 1.5 hours of hiking, the shoes were still noticeably wet, but not enough to make my foot freeze.
Overall, these are great shoes, the clean up very well (just rinse them off and use a brush to knock off the dirt) and I wear them everyday to school.
