Taylor Bentz's Bio

I'm a climber, biker, kiter, skier, dog dad, musician, and reader. Currently I spend most of my climbing time developing new routes in the Uinta Mountains and Echo Canyon in Utah. I've been learning to Kite Ski and have been falling in love with that combination of huge motor-style power with the peace and serenity of the wind and the hills.

Familiarity: I've used it several times
Fit: True to size
Height: 5' 9"
Weight: 145 lbs
Size Purchased: Small

Warmer than expected, as warm as a thick fleece sweater. Fit is good on me, good sleeve length, width, nick width, and cut on torso is right on. I'm usually between a small and medium, the small fits me well, so nice to find something that runs 1/2 size larger.

I used these while kiteboarding in the cold early-summer waters of the Columbia and they helped me stay out for 3 hour sessions in the cold miserable rain, but great wind.

These are great skins. I’ve got over twenty days on them this season. The glue and traction are going strong and I expect will continue to for a few seasons. Only recently on extremely wet spring tour days have I experience any snow build up, and even then it’s been pretty minimal compared to past skins I’ve used. My one gripe with them is that I’ve noticed it’s possible to accidentally knock one of the top clips off if you hit the top of one ski with the other while touring. I’ve even bent one of the clips badly while skin skiing down a slight hill and I haven’t been able to bend it completely back to normal. Other than that I expect these to give me at least a few more seasons of great touring.

These thing are the perfect shoe for technical scrambling. They are not good for trail running ad there is very little padding under foot, but because they are slimmed down, they perform very well in technical terrain, giving you great sensitivity for climbing. Recently used on West Ridge of Mt. Stuart in terrible rime ice conditions, and they shined. It took mine ~35 miles of hiking and scrambling in the cascades to break in.

Used these heavily on a week-long ski mountaineering trip in the cascades this year. The glasses are great and keep the peripheral light out of your vision, similar to glacier glasses, but without the bulk and weight. The tint is a little bit too light though in my opinion.
