I was born in Salt Lake and raised in Park City, UT. I started skiing at the age of 4 and eventually took interest in multiple outdoor activities that Utah had to offer. Winter time includes skiing everyday possible (as long as i'm not in school or working basically). During the off-season from skiing I take advantage of the mountains, rivers, and lakes by biking, hiking, fishing, and kayaking.
When I say quickie, I mean a short time away from the bikes. I keep it in the back of my truck that I use a tailgate pad on and run it through the bikes when I need to run into the store or something quick. Certainly works in a pinch and better than nothing at all!
I've had this pad on my 2019 Tacoma for about a month now and am seriously impressed. I also have a rolling tonneau cover (made by Tyger) and am able to fit the pad underneath when I roll the cover back and THEN shut the tailgate (even with the back-up flap flipped up!). With the straps properly snugged down the pad won't move at all. I recently got into some impromptu off-roading with some rough terrain and the bikes stayed completely locked down and steady. Highly recommend!
These mitts have a unique ability to hold heat when it matters, but have a slim and sleek profile. If you're a skier you'll notice the thinsulate insulation feels like memory foam when you're gripped to the pole. I have the Auburn color and get lots of compliments on the look and style of these bad boys!
I've spent 2 seasons in the Vertex and with proper care for this full leather glove I can't find a reason to buy anything else! As with any leather glove/mitt they need to be treated after the material gets too dirty and begins to absorb water. If you don't clean and treat the glove, the leather will get damp and the Gore-tex lining will have problems breathing, leading to sweaty and cold hands. From my experience the Vertex really performs its best at 0-35 degree temps (typical ski season temps) and it doesn't hurt that the detail and feel of this glove is killer!
