Tanja Kunde's Bio

Originally from Germany I visited Americas West for a 4 month vacation (This was about 3 years ago). This Vacation trip turned into full-time employment, moving to Utah, starting a new life in America's wild west.

"Life is an adventure"

Here in Utah I deepened my love for the mountains, sandstone, biking (all forms), snowboarding, hiking, canyoneering and climbing. I camped and adventured at some of the most beautiful spots in this entire world and am happy to call this place my home now.

Saved my Life
5 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size

I've bought this helmet before in an older version and didn't hesitate to buy this updated version as well.

It is great to have a helmet that can be used as a full face downhill helmet for every terrain, as well as a normal helmet for cross country riding and easier descents.

End of July 2017 i crashed on an expert trail, flew 25ft up in the air and landed pretty hard on my face. My arm broke fully and my body was all torn up. This helmet kept my brain in place, moved accordingly to the impact, my face slid through, my chin hit the ground and got a scratch, but other than that I have no injuries on my head. no neck pain, no brain injury, nothing! This helmet moved with the impact and therefore kept me safe!!! You can see a dent and scratch marks on the picture, what is evidence for the good quality of this product!

I will ALWAYS buy this helmet again and recommend it to anybody. Besides of that it comes in great color options.

The only con was that the adjusters in the back came lose and didn't tighten all the way anymore. A comfort issue.

Familiarity: I've used it several times

I am so glad to have this tool. It is small, light, comes in a nice little pouch and saved my riding day a few times. Adjust components, tighten the chain, reset the handlebar. It also came in handy for fellow riders that were grateful to meet somebody carrying a multi tool with them. A good thing to have!

How can I ever be without it again
5 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I am normally the type of person that goes everywhere with minimal equipment. For this summer I had planned to go on longer cross country trips and decided that a little hydration pack could be a good idea.

Pro:
- This pack sits comfortable on my back and the triangle shape, adjustment straps make it a great thing for uphill riding as much as on downhill trails of all sorts. I jumped Tsunami in Deer Valley with it resting on my back.

- It is super small, but I can fit half my household in it. It has a main pocket with a pocket for the hydration pack and one for a pump. A front pocket, where I keep my snacks and a small top pocket for car keys, ID, etc.

- The material is sturdy. I ripped it on a minor crash, but nothing happened to it on my major crash.

Con:
- I would take the slightly bigger version (8l) next time to carry more water and because the bigger version has straps to carry your helmet around, when you're going up puke hill on wasatch crest and just want your head to breath.

- I know it is unnecessary, but a front pocket for easy phone or radio access WOULD be nice, but is definitely not needed!

A huge Step Up!
5 5

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I am 5.8'' tall and bought this one in Size M. I took it out once so far, compared to my old bike (Cannondale Moto 2010) this is a huge step up!

Pros: The 27.5+ tires make it easy to get speed and roll over obstacles. It is so light that my hopping and jumping game will increase this season! The color pops! (I purchased it in blue/orange). It is a downhill bike ready for enduro rides. I pedaled uphill (in Utah!) with open suspensions and no other problems than my gears (see the con section) and breathing to get up. The bike is so light and easy to ride uphill that I almost wanted that extra challenge to stay in shape. It is handy to reach the levers on the go that stiffen the suspensions while riding and the dropper seatpost makes it easy to adjust to the terrain without ever having to step off the bike! No justifications for breaks anymore!

Cons: - Not a lot of color options to choose from (but is that sooo important?) - my gears are set off after my first day riding up and made my chain pop. (That is to be expected though after riding it with full weight for the first time) Don't have any other cons so far!

Recommendation: ahhh definitely!! I will take it out a few more times (of course) after my shoulder is healed up from our first trail bonding day and when the rain stops (preserve the trails!) and update my review with more details. =)

oh, and if you purchase the bike kit, don't forget to order pedals ;-) my smart self didn't know that they were not included in the kit!

Happy riding! =D

I was Sceptical, am now amazed!
5 5

Familiarity: I've used it several times
Fit: Runs large
Height: 5' 8"
Weight: 146 lbs
Size Purchased: Small

I bought these pants honestly because they were cheap and matched my colors. I had to order S, M and L before I found my perfect fit. I am normally wearing L or M, here I had to go with S.

(L) was way too big. Better fit for a built man.
(M) was a little loose around the back area,
(S) seemed to be too tight and snug.

I decided to give (S) a shot and WOW! They're like Marry Poppins Pants :D I thought they would be too tight, but I still had room for tights underneath and I could stretch in every direction with no problems.

They are snowproof, look great and participated in every stretch and move without ever being a hindering. My "snow-leggings".

I would always buy them again and recommend them to others. I like the little design lashes it has and the pant hooks on the bottom that help you with not stepping on your pant legs and to not be in the way when strapping into snowboard bindings. The air vents on the inside of the thighs are perfect for spring skiing! They definitely look better on the person than on that picture.

Bottom Line: Love these! Buy them smaller!

Game Changer
5 5

Familiarity: I've used it several times

Pros:
- I love these boots. They fit well, keep me warm ad tightly fixed to my board and it is really comfortable walking in them. It feels as if my feet and the boots melt into each other. The internal ankle harness was a thing I had to get used to, but it really is a game changer: My feet don't "swim" around while boarding like they did in my old shoes. When I go toe side now, my heels actually stay with the boot!
- The internal lock system and velcro tongue keep my foot in place and united with the boot. The double boa system helps to tighten the span and lower chin area separately and can be fit to every individual foot.
- It is super easy to get out of the boots and to strap tehm in a way that turns them into a warm and comfortable hiking boot for Boot-Packing-Backcountry-Runs

Cons:
- My feet are pretty slim and the lower boa could be a little tighter.
- The Boas loosen up after the first two runs and need to be retightened. (That might be a common thing with all Boa systems though)
- The Material is showing some abrasions of where the boa straps are cutting along.

All over all: Wonderful Boot!

Purchased Size M and they were too small for me. The Width was perfect. Haven't tried them on the slopes. I would buy them in a size larger if that was still available.

I needed new bindings, because my older ones were getting "stucky".

I am still getting used to these, but my initial impression is promising me an even more enjoyable season than I had so far, the bindings are higher off the ground and react a little different to me than what I am used to, but already feel like they will perform better with me as soon as my feet and them get comfortable with each other.( I will update my final impression when the time comes)

I like the no-tool adjustment system on the latches. The flip and click pressure system makes it easy.

What I don't like is that they're running small. I am wearing size 8.5 boots and therefore ordered these bindings in Small. The latches just barely fit over my boots! Next time I will order them in M.

Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I have very skinny feet and wanted some boots that have the ability to compensate that and keep me snugged in. A friend told me about the double boa lacing system and I gave it a shot. After setting my search filters tighter and tighter I had narrowed my search down from 35 to 3 boots that I ordered and tried on.

This pair flew out in the semi-finale, because they run pretty wide for my feet. Definitely more made for male feet or flatter running arches.
What I loved about these shoes is the Vibram hiking sole that make them very durable for backcountry snowboarding experiences. If they would fit my narrow feet better, I might have kept them.

I am a size 9 and ordered 8.5

Lost in the Finale, won Silver!

They feel like a normal shoe, very comfortable, my feet actually fit (!), just read through the amazing tech specs and the prize is very affordable for a boot like this one. The design of shiny black and gold looks fancy and nice (perfect for snow basin resort!) and DC is a brand with style, but ....... they are not MY style.

Seriously the last criteria that made them fly out of my comparisom was the design. :-D Woman has to make a decision somehow. I went with the Rome Memphis Boa instead.

Pro Tip: Order them a size smaller. I am normally a Size 9 and ordered Size 8.5 which was still almost a little big for my feet.

They almost won the competition

Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought two pairs of socks for this snowboarding season from two different brands to compare them. I am already in love with merino wool for their great ability to keep you warm and aired out, while having the thickness of a cotton sock. These Volcom socks didn't impress me as much as the Burton socks did.

I love snowboarding at night, when the temperatures can drop fast and where snowstorms and high winds chill you even more (especially while sitting on the lift!) The nights I was wearing these socks, my feet were always colder compared to the nights I was wearing the Burton version.

But don't get me wrong. I am comparing two of the best socks for the snow sports! Two of some high quality brands. They manage to keep my feet warm and 95% dry with the switching temperatures between cold lift times and high energy downhill rides! They run a little big (or are just stretchy) and suuuper soft (definitely softer than Burton). They're style is also way nicer, but who cares about the style? SHould be wearing boots and bindings! Nobody cares what your socks "look" like!

Bottom Line: They are soft, comfortable (!) wide (or run a little big), look beautiful and keep you warm and dry (thank you merino wool!)

Not my personal favorite (in comparison), but definitely a good choice!

After going through so many beanies that are scratchy, too tight, small, slide up, etc. I found "Coal". I love this beanie as much as i like the other one I bought from this brand. It is soft, I can wear it long or short thanks to the reversible Logo and I surely love the color ( I bought it in light brown) . I wear it while at work, privately or on a snowboarding day/night. It matches my style!

Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought this in the classic-stainless version. It has a great size of 12 oz that make your morning coffee or tea more handy while at work, driving or school. Now you don't have to carry the huge family size flask around anymore, but rather refill this one. I bought this for my studying cousin (21 years old) and she loved it, was actually hoping for one like that.

I bought the charcoal version. Most hats make my head itch and scratch. This one is soft, light and sooo comfortable. Sometimes I forget that I wear it or grab it to make sure I didn't lose it. It definitely feels like it becomes a part of my head while wearing it. I would buy this again, already looking at burgundy and creme .... !
