I live in the snowbelt of the midwest and recently have worn out a pair of trusty all-weather gloves that I've had for 8 years. Those gloves served me extremely well in all conditions. This summer I picked up a pair of newer but similar gloves. After the first month of 10 degree and lower weather the gloves just couldn't keep up. So I went searching and with my experience of merino wool clothing, I searched for wool gloves/mittens. The reviews I found for smart wool gloves just didn't seem to cut for my usage (ice fishing, dog walking, snowshoeing...basic extreme cold weather solitude use) so I chose the mittens. I knew I was taking a risk as I just couldn't find a review of the mittens. I'm glad I took that leap! I've had the mittens for one week now with air temps reaching -15˚F. The gloves are great! They're not overly roasting but warm (that's key!) and as long as you can keep your fingers moving once in a while, they work great! The wool contents seem to feel better than any of the synthetics I've tried, breath well, and seems to retain heat well. We'll see how they fair in the coming months and look forward to updating my review with more experiences.
