I've been an Arcteryx man all my life, but when I saw this Jacket go on sale last year I thought I'd try something new, and retire my 8-year-old Arcteryx Sidewinder. The Lofoton shell looks great, fits well, and is comfortable for sure. I did notice immediately that moisture didn't bead up as well on the exterior as it had on my Arcteryx product, and that the fabric did not appear to be as sturdy. This worried me, as I ride in the woods all the time, but since my Sidewinder had lasted 8 years of being poked and prodded with tree branches and sticks, I thought a product marketed as comprable would hold up as well. I was dead wrong. On day 9 of riding, I brushed by a tree branch and the fabric ripped like tissue paper. Whoops. So now I have a $700 jacket held together with tape after just a few days of riding. Lesson learned - I'll save up a few bucks and buy another Arcteryx. No more Norrona for this guy!

I'm really thinking about getting these bibs for this coming winter. I had arcteryx previously, and I tried to like the theta sv bib - the waterproofing is bulletproof as always - but they do get clammy, buckle on the pants never stayed clipped and I find the skinny - pants fit on the bib uncomfortable. Finally, the style isn't for me. I need a replacement, and I've been stoked on Stoic gear lately - the styling is more to my taste (less J Crew-ish) and the price point is sweet by comparison. I picked up the bombshell jacket already, and love the fit and the look. The waterproofing remains to be tested, but I have faith . I am worried a bit about the external fabric - the stretchy fabric is way comfortable and light, but I ski in the trees all day long, and it seems like it would rip much more easily than the more rigid theta material. Anyone have durability issues with this material?
