Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Fit: Runs small
Straight out of the box, I wore these hiking up Angel's Landing in Zion National Park. I really don't have any complaints! Their ankle support and grip was very helpful during the hike. It was over 100 degrees but my feet never bothered me as being too hot (as opposed to just being hot in general). When purchasing I kept going back and forth between these and the waterproof ones but these were probably more breathable in comparison.
I went up a half size but I typically do in sneakers (I'm a solid 10 but went up to a 10.5). I've dealt with issues in my big toe so having enough room was important to me. I like the toe protection on this boot.
I did a ton of research for my first pair of hiking boots and I'm glad I chose these-I would recommend these to anyone! Also backcountry has the most impressive customer service so I would recommend purchasing with them.
