I was comfortable wearing this alone in 20-35 degree temperatures. It's 800-fill down means it has high quality insulation for a good weight-warmth ratio, and it sure does have a lot of insulation. The Pertex Shield will actually ward off a decent amount of moisture, but like all down insulation I would avoid being caught in the rain without an outer layer. I highly recommend this jacket if you're looking for something to keep you warm on cold nights camping around the fire!

I've found this to be a pretty handy water sanitation device for the trails. As long as you know there is a reliable source of water, you can decrease the weight of your pack by filling up on the trail rather than carry all your water the entire time. One thing to keep in mind is that you cannot filter very much water at a time, so I would only recommend this for personal use. Pro Tip: leave the cap untwisted a bit when pressing down to filter so it doesn't create a vacuum seal.

Although the pants I tried on were too long (Medium was too big for 5'7"), I found them to have great mobility and to be very durable even when I put them through its paces snowboarding and snowshoeing. The inner scuff guards worked well, and the thigh vents were extremely effective for regulating body heat. It has a bit of a fleece lining to keep your warm when you need it too. The avalanche beacon pocket is a nice touch if you're going to the backcountry.

Hestra has been making gloves for a very long time and definitely know what they are doing. These are the warmest mittens I've ever worn, and everything from the color to the straps and materials look very classy. I never had any issue with snow getting inside them, but the best part was knowing that my hands would be nice and toasty the whole day.

So many good things to say about the Beta AR! I have used it in several situations including snowshoeing, snowboarding, trail running, and cycling. Whether it was snowing, raining, windy, or sunny, this shell was super versatile. The GoreTex is both windproof and waterproof, keeping you dry in all types of conditions. I loved the underarm vents when I needed to release body heat on the trail. Did I mention it weighs so little you hardly realize it's there? You also gotta appreciate the helmet-compatible hood when safety has to come first. This is my go-to outer shell.

Sizing: I'm 5'7" and 135lb. I wore a Medium to make sure I could layer easily. It was a little big, but I think the Small would be perfect and still have enough room for a next-to-skin baselayer and a lightweight insulation layer like a Patagonia NanoPuff.

Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought this for my mom and she loves it! The colors and graphics are very clean, and the quality of construction is solid like all Hydroflask products. Definitely recommended whether you need cold drinks on a hot day or a hot coffee in the morning to warm you up!

Really glad that I picked up this Platypus bladder for my Grand Canyon trail run back in November! The 2L is a great choice for shorter hikes, or if you know you'll have water supply along the way. I typically recommend at least 3L on day hikes, but it's nice to have the different size options if you want to save weight. It was very easy to fill this bladder, and I loved that the nozzle is attached to the actual bottom of the bag so gravity gets you every single drop. The material feels like it would be flimsy, but I have had no concerns about it leaking or breaking even while running down some very rough terrain.

I used to trail run in larger hiking shoes, but after being introduced to Salomon's trail running shoes I have been hooked. I grabbed these Sense Ride's just in time for a 28-mile run through the Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim in November. With no previous break in required, they felt good right away and incredibly light. The grip was pretty solid across the desert trails both uphill and downhill. I love Salomon's cinch lace up system, and the size fit me well. Only thing I would've liked is more waterproofing, but the tradeoff is a breathable mesh shoe.

I bought these Busenitz for downhill skateboarding (think high-speed longboard racing) because they are supposedly the most comfortable skate shoe you can get. While it is definitely comfortable and cushioned, they are almost too plush feeling for the dialed, locked-in feel I like to shoot for. However they are stylieee and classic.

Fit: Runs small

Well, time to buy a few of these and donate the rest of my pants! Seriously comfortable and great fit. I wore these for almost a week straight on a road trip from Utah through Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. They held up well for everything from hiking to rock climbing to hiking and relaxing. The 3% spandex adds a nice flexibility to the softness of the cotton. After checking reviews for sizing, I went up to a 33x32. I normally wear 30 or 31, so I think a 32x30 would actually be the best fit for me, however the 33's were still very relaxed and not too large.

This mug is beautiful, lightweight, and helps save the planet <3

It's even lighter than I was expecting, making it a great choice to bring with you on the trail. I was also pleasantly surprised by the double-wall insulation. You can pour boiling hot water into the cup and hold the outside with your bare hands immediately no problem!

This mug is on the heavier, ceramic side which keeps my drinks nice and warm. I love the black and white speckled design with the Backcountry logos too. For 8 - 10 oz drinks, this is a great size mug because you have plenty of room to add cream, or simply avoiding spills when you are getting your 6th cup of coffee for the day :)

The 2-person footprint was very easy to set up with the Sierra Designs Meteor 2 person tent. Having the one red line made this very user-friendly when I was setting it up for the first time in freezing weather in the dark. While there was morning dew around my tent every morning of my 5-day road trip, this footprint kept the tent dry and clean very well. The best part about this footprint is that it has its own super small and slim carrying bag.

I recently used this Peak Design SlideLITE camera strap on a 5-day road trip from Utah to Crater Lake National Park.
I did a lot of hiking, so rather than keep the camera on this strap around my neck/shoulder, I actually attached this strap to the Peak Designs Field Pouch and left my Sony a6300 mirrorless camera inside. This worked out really well because my camera was protected from the elements, and was just as easy to whip out for the right shot as pulling a phone out of my pocket.
Everything made by Peak Design was obviously well thought out and the attention to detail is top notch! Looks very sophisticated as well.

I had the chance to try out this harness for my first couple days rock-climbing and loved it! The medium was a great fit for me (31" waist). As someone new to climbing, I appreciated the sturdy simplicity and comfort of the Petzl Sitta.
