Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size

I have worn these on backpack trips in the PNW, working lift ops in Colorado, doing light mountaineering in Colorado, and now, in their old age, rolling around town when its snowing out. They are light enough for a low-key day hike yet somehow burly enough for a week long backpacking trip in the alpine. There are no crampon lips so its not specifically a mountaineering boot but they will perform on a pretty high level for what they are. Stiff at first but they break in well. Im on year 7 of heavy use but they have almost been retired to townies. Oh yeah, and they are also about as waterproof as breathable boots get. Thanks Gore-Tex. When I was in The Enchantments up in WA we were in snow with gaiters on for a large portion of the trip, feet were not wet once. I did slip a pretty stiff insole in them for the heavier trips.
