Randy Smith's Bio

Major ski accident on Ellie's run at Heavenly Tahoe in Feb 2016 -- lucky to be alive. Not able to ski yet, but working on getting back into the game. Snowshoeing, hiking and photography are my current challenges, and hopefully someday back on the slopes.

Familiarity: I've used it several times
Fit: True to size
Height: 6' 3"
Weight: 210 lbs
Size Purchased: Large-tall

I wish I would have bought these several seasons ago. I thought they were a bit expensive, but now that I have them and worn them for two months on the slopes of Tahoe, I'm showing them more love than my all-time favorite Arc'Teryx Alpha SV ski bibs that I've had for 16 years (they're still in perfect condition, too!). Together with the Satoro wool/nylon base layers, I can put them on at sunrise, ski for the day, walk my dogs, and then head out to dinner without feeling like I need to change clothes. The extra-long size is perfect for my tall frame. The cinches at the ankles really work to keep the snow out, even when marching through knee-high drifts. Plenty of pockets, too. I'm a total fan of these pants!

I'm buying a second Covert Jacket because I wear my first one entirely too often. My friends were starting to ask if I ever cleaned it. Switching up the color to throw them off. Again, true to fit with longer sleeves that I need. Hoody is non-obtrusive if not being used; easy to forget that it's there. Great mid-layer with Atom LT or Cerium vest. I use it skiing and around town. I don't have piling on my first one, but I'm careful to turn it inside-out when washing it.

A really comfortable, nice-fitting long-sleeve shirt from Arc'teryx. This is my second Captive LS because I've learned that something you really like from Arc'Teryx could go away after just one season, never to be seen again. This is a well made shirt that fits true-to-size, with longer sleeves, that I need.

I really like these pants; I've now have 5 different colors that I've collected over the past years. I am retired and am active, so I wear these every day. Ramparts are sized a bit larger than the ones from 5-7 years ago. Easy care, into the washer and dryer and wear. I get comments on the styling as I travel around the country. Universally, good comments all the way around.
