Nicky Rosado's Bio

I was lucky enough to be raised in Northern California. Summer weekends were spent waterskiing, wakeboarding, camping, riding bikes and hiking. Winters were spent getting up to Tahoe as often as possible. I started skiing at a very young age and crossed over to snowboarding in the mid '90s, when boards were basically planks of wood and airwalk had the best boot on the market. Much of my adult life was spent in Phoenix, Az, where I tried my best to acclimate to life in the Sonoran Desert. I highly encourage every Arizonan to try the following: climb Humphreys Peak in Flagstaff, hike any of the trails in Sedona - especially Devil's Bridge - but go early, it gets packed on the weekends, climb Camelback Mountain, cycle out to Fountain Hills from North Scottsdale, and camp on the beautiful Mogollon Rim!

My family and I relocated to Portland, OR in the summer of 2015. We are super stoked on the PNW! Some of my favorite activities include cycling, camping, hiking, paddling, bouldering, climbing, wakeboarding, slacklining, trail running, gardening, drawing, sewing and backpacking.

All reviews are by me or my husband, or my daughter. We offer our honest thoughts, to help you search for the best gear for you and your family.

I'm happy to help anyone have more fun outside and pursue a life of adventure!

I was feeling bold when I bought these and thought it would be cool to try out a pair of super bright pants. The cut is cool, but you need to go up a size if you have big hips because they're low rise. The pockets are really nice, plus your friends will be able to spot you from anywhere on the mountain.

Just like everyone else, I was shocked by how small these babies run. I am a size 4/27 and I picked these up in a size medium. They are skin tight, too tight for me to wear a pair of padded shorts under to bike in, so now they're used for trail running. I'm looking forward to seeing how they do in the snow while cross-country skiing this weekend. I'll definitely bring a backup pair just in case. The cut is nice and the reflective design is cool and super effective!

I like that this shirt feels durable enough for me to attempt to do serious manual labor in it, but it looks like you can wear it out for the night and look put together. Filson nailed it with this shirt, the dark gray color with white looks modern and polished with dark denim or black pants. The shirt does require a little extra care, it's dry clean only, but that's really the only drawback to it. The shirt is also incredibly warm, paired with a cami, it's perfect for Portland winters. Consider going up a size if you are large chested, My waist and chest measurements suggested a small but I'm glad I went with the medium, I think the buttons would have pulled across my chest in a small. Nobody likes that!

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought these for an upcoming vacation, not too many opportunities to wear them in the winter in the PNW. I've worn them around the house several times to break them in for a trip, they are the softest leather sandals right out of the box. I generally have to break in sandals before wearing them for long periods of time, but these are supremely comfortable. I hope they hold up to miles of walking in full sunshine and humidity. The ankle strap is really cute and doesn't rub my ankle at all. If you are lucky enough to pick these up on sale, you're going to be extra stoked. I am thinking about getting them in a different color.

First off, these are super cute. I love the classic wave the height of the shoe. The interior fabric that lines the shoes feels like a sherpa material, it's very soft and fuzzy. These keep my feet happy and warm. The coldest temps I've been in with these on is 40 and my feet were nice a toasty. The upgraded cushion means I can walk around for miles and not have aching feet. Classic vans footbeds are too thin for me to walk any distance over a mile. I love the camel color (Tiger's eye), they look great with denim and black pants and the suede feels fairly durable. This shoe is great for someone with nearly every width feet because you can loosen or tighten the laces to your liking. The size 6 runs true to size.

I wasn't prepared for how badass this bag is. I'm a small framed human and this bag feels like it was made for my size people! This is the first backpack that I've been stoked on that doesn't make me feel like I have a turtle shell. The compartments are perfect, they've added just the right amount of pockets. The new closing mechanism is easy to use and stay secure while you run to catch a train or ride your bike over bumps. The built-in rain cover is absolute brilliance! Whomever at Timbuk2 is responsible for the discreet reflective portion, they deserve a medal! This is hands down the best backpack for urban commuting that I've ever seen. Timbuk2 rules!!!

Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Contrary to its sleek design and elegant hardware, this backpack is mighty durable and built to last. I bought this last year as a graduation present for a close friend. For the past 6 months, I have been watching it take a beating and endure an hour-long commute via bike and train, in rain and sunshine. My friend is not the most gentle bag owner, I cringe when I see him put his bag on the floor in various establishments, however, the bag still looks brand new. This bag is tough enough for a slightly irresponsible bag owner, who is also a tech professional that is quite particular in the internal storage layout. I love this bag!

I bought this for my husband, he's very picky about what goes on his baby (BMC road bike). After he shredded his last seat pack on his old road bike, I knew I would have to find him something that was equally stylish as it is practical and efficient. This pack in a size medium looks awesome on his bright red bike and fits a tube, toolset, CO2 cartridge and a couple packs of Gu.

I just got this for Christmas and I love it! It's nice to have my keys, inhaler and phone in such a convenient location. I ride a really small frame (48cm) and it fits great on my center bar, no knee contact. The goody box is roomy enough for me to keep a bar in, to help keep me from getting hangry on longer commute days. The box could use a latching system to give me more confidence when I have to hang it up on the Max train - but it's new and hasn't flipped open yet - fingers crossed.

My husband has this bag and we both love it! I would steal it from him if it fit my frame better. He's a big guy, 6'5" and 215lbs, this bag is a great fit for him and it's perfect for lugging a laptop to the office on a bike. The pocket for helmet storage is awesome, you can tell the company really understands the life of urban commuters. The padded system on the back panel is extremely comfortable, even in the warm summer months, the panels have been designed to vent your body heat. This backpack is bomb-proof, it's the swiss-army knife of backpacks and it's definitely up to the challenge that the rain in the PNW provides. I freaking love this bag! The only note that I'll make is :: If you're a petite human like myself (sub 5'3"), you may want to try out the Robin instead of this one.

Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
Fit: Runs large
Height: 5' 3"
Weight: 130 lbs
Size Purchased: small

This shirt is very soft and I love the pattern that's printed on the inside of the fabric, but the cut is way too wide for a short and curvy woman like me, I'm just shy of 5'3" and 130lbs, I generally wear small shirts unless they're cut super fitted and then I get a medium. This small was HUGE, it was wider than most large t-shirts. I think it would look great on someone with a very straight figure.

I love dry bags and am a huge fan of Seal Line products, so when my husband's parents starting spending a lot of time in the water training for a long-distance swim, I knew they needed to own one of these. This is the first dry bag that they've ever used and they're stoked on how easy and water-tight it is. I'm sure this bag will log many hours off the coast of Pensacola and keep their belongings safe for years to come. The gray color is super modern and fresh and quite bright.

Comfortable, soft, fashionable AND it has pockets?! I bought this for my mother-in-law for Christmas and she loves it! It looks nice enough to wear out to dinner and yet it's practical enough to wear every day. I will be buying one of these for myself as soon as they're back in stock. TNF nailed it with this piece.

Out of the 30+ jackets my husband owns, the Summit L3 Ventrix is his absolute favorite jacket. It's breathability and stretch makes it ideal for activities like climbing, rowing, and cycling. The warmth rivals that of one of his 600 fill down jackets, but this jacket is far less bulky, more water repellant and it looks much cooler. The image for the Turbulence Grey is misleading, it's really a light grey. I'm now completely sold on this jacket and will be buying a womens Summit Ventrix for myself. I would encourage anyone that likes to get awesome outside, to buy this jacket.

I nailed it this Christmas with this Synchilla in the Nickel/Rosewater color, the accent color is basically blush pink - which if you haven't noticed is a very popular color right now. I intentionally picked this color because it also matches a pair of Vans she currently owns, coordination points achieved! According to my daughter, this fleece is the definition of ADORABLE and it feels like you're wearing a blanket without all the extra fabric. She also mentioned that it's breathable and she doesn't overheat while wearing it in and out of the heated classrooms at school. The proper fit of this Synchilla is meant to be slightly baggy.

This is my new go-to top for trail-running. The raglan sleeve cut feels flattering and comfy. It's the perfect length for me and that's amazing because I have a really long torso. The deep plum color is a welcome addition to my mostly black wardrobe and is highly visible on the trails. The fabric is super soft and the UPF sun protection is a nice benefit for winter hikes in the sunshine.

The only reason why I'm giving these 4 stars and not 5 stars, is because of the break-in period. While the footbed is comfortable from Day 1 of wear, the back of the boot is quite stiff and bothered the back of my calf. I do have very short legs, so the boots will probably have a better break-in period for someone with longer than a 28" inseam. Early calf-rubbing aside, these boots are freaking awesome and I'm looking forward to wearing them snowshoeing and mountaineering this winter and spring. The black with the teal looks sweet and you can easily attach a pant clip or gaiter to the laces.

I gave this as a Christmas gift to my youngest brother and he loves it. He's thin but has a large 6'2" frame so I got him an XL, plus he's only 20 so he likes things to fit super baggy. I went with the gray sweatshirt with the white logo so he would be more visible at night. The cotton is really soft and works well for dry 40 degree winter days.

This bag is made for wet weather adventures in the wild, however, it's simple and modern design make it incredibly fashionable. I will carry this through the Cascades and for urban adventures in rainy Portland. The straps are super comfortable and thick, so you can comfortably carry this for hours. Filson knocked it out of the park with this bag.
