I'll be honest this is my first pair of hiking boots because normally I buy hiking shoes since I'm not usually doing more than day hikes. When I made the purchase I really had three things in mind I needed out of this boot. The first was breathability. The main reason I avoid boots of any sort is because they don't allow my feet to breath, in which case my feet heat up while I'm out and about and I'm generally miserable until I can get home and rip them off. These boots however did a great job of keeping my feet cool, but with one caveat I noticed that you have to be moving for them to continually vent. The second, was support. They have this really nice feature in the heal that help give you leverage as you are walking and acts almost as a spring to help you push off, which at first feels a bit odd, but by 5 minutes in you don't even notice the awkward pressure on your heal. Third was grip, lets face it that any hiking boot that doesn't do this probably shouldn't be a hiking boot and this boot did not disappoint.
