Micah Appel's Bio

I love the outdoors and I love gear. I was born and raised in Northern Michigan where I started skiing, biking, and camping at a very young age. As I got older I dabbled in surfing and climbing as well, but skiing is my true passion. After getting an engineering degree from Michigan State I spent a year in Virginia working in my field, but quickly realized I had to be near the mountains. I left my job to move out to Salt Lake City where I am skiing, biking, and climbing almost everyday

I love these pants! I currently have 3 pair and wear them to the office and the climbing gym! They fit fairly well, but I wish they tapered down just a little bit at my ankle, as they feel a little baggy towards the cuff

I have been bouldering for a while, but I figured it was time to finally get a harness so I can top rope and sport climb. This harness is very comfortable, and a great price! I am about a 32-33 waist and I went with the medium. I am definitely on the upper end of a medium, so 34 waist and up should go with the large.

A lot of people go straight for the file to tune their edges. That takes off way too much material unless your edges are very damaged. For most sharpening I would recommend using these 3 stones to bevel, sharpen, and polish. You'll be able to hold an edge on even the iciest slopes!

These skis absolutely shred! They really are the perfect all mountain ski for aggressive skiers. They are fairly stiff, so they will give you feedback when you need it and respond to every input.
On the groomers they carve like GS skis. When there is a drought I still have fun on these just shredding groomers. They say they are full rocker, but really they are flat underfoot with a little bit of early rise tip and tail, so they will not flap around on the hard stuff

Off piste is where they really shine. These skis just love the steeps. For really deep powder days the perfect ski would be a little softer, but I still love skiing pow with these. My favorite pair of skis I've ever owned

This jacket is so tough. I'm pretty sure I could take a shower while wearing it and not get wet. I have not had a chance to ski backcountry with this, which is why I purchased it, but so far it has worked great for resort skiing paired with my Patagonia Down Sweater as an insulator. I am 6'1" 180 lbs and bought the Medium. it is a little tight when layering underneath, but the Large was huge on me. The length is perfect for skiing

I had been using my Dakine Heli Pro 24 L for touring, but I am getting more serious about backcountry skiing and realized I needed a more serious pack. This it the perfect size for long day trips, but never feels too bulky on the descent. Has a pocket for my rescue gear that is seperate from everything else. Very supportive as well
