Melissa Rasmussen's Bio

I'm a desert rat; I live and breath the desert. I have spent the last two summers in Moab running the Colorado and Green River and then work in Salt Lake during the winters. Anytime I am not at work I am out on an adventure either climbing, rafting, or camping.

Rain Jacket for the Rain Forest
5 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size
Height: 5' 6"
Weight: 140 lbs
Size Purchased: Medium

I have put this jack through different climates. I initially bought it for my 29 day rafting trip from the high desert of southern Peru to the Rain Forest in the Amazon. True to size and very nice to have the additional extra length in the back of the jacket and a long the wrists for those week long rainy days. I have had it for the last couple years and still going strong.

Took these to Eastern Europe during the winter and loved them! While my roommates were wearing 5 layers of wool socks I just had the one with these boots. Keeps you dry, cozy warm, easy to break in, and super comfortable. These are worth every penny.

I usually wear 8.5 but had to go up to a 9 since they don't do half sizes

I wasn't sure how comfortable these would be due to I have sensitive skin, bu with putting these on for the first time I was feeling great! They are get next to skin. They stretch a little but not enough to be frumpy. I'm taking these to Europe to me for the winter!

Match made on the noggin'!
5 5

Familiarity: I've used it several times
Fit: Runs small

I have a small head and a very sensitive scalp so when I find a hat that fits just right and doesn't itch, its a keeper for life! Best thing about it is that its like two in one. Reversible! I got the Rocket/Largo one. Thinking about another one to add to the collection. Perfect for when you are on the mountain tops! This hat will also cover your ears so if you get ear aches from the cold or wind, this one is also meant for you!

These fit comfortable right out of the bag. Nice jeans that are great for street wear and climbing. Moves with you with all of your activities! I'm 5'6" and 155lbs Athletic build and they were a little tight around the waist at first but after the first day they fit me perfectly. I get compliments on these all the time. Already ordering my second pair in another color!

Great shoes for bouldering and sport climbing. Took these to Joe's Valley and kept on my toes for all day climbing. I wear a size 8.5 street shoe and I wear 7.5 for these. love the support in the toes and heels. Super sticky! Love these!

I bought this ATC when first getting into rock climbing, canyoneering, and ice climbing. It did its job for all three but I prefer this one for when belaying or ice climbing. The friction control makes it a little more difficult for when repelling; especially if you are first new to free hanging. Still great ATC when first starting out and doing single pitch climbs.

I got to try these back at the Mountain Festival in Idaho and immediately fell in love. Really comfortable to your feet and are really light. Always allows you to feel like you can cover more ground with them. I immediately went to buy a pair of my own. Only thing is I wish they would be less flashy looking with the color.

Great Kayak PFD
4 5

This was my first PFD, and it was perfect for kayaking or rafting. I suggest it for more if you are going to be in a cockpit with how the back is made. Has lots of pockets. Overall was a great pfd. The only thing I had a problem with was the zipper. I feel this is a common occurrence with front zippers is that sometimes its hard to start them. other than that, its great

Great day pack!
5 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I use this pack all of the time as my go to weekend camping trip or day pack. I can fit all of my essientials (sleeping bag, tent, pillow, clothes, cooler weather gear, pot set).
Its definitely a diverse use pack. I've taken it all over the place and haven't had any problems. Easy on the back, breathable, easy to adjust, lost of pockets, and comes with rain fly. Also has a pocket to put a bladder in. Great pack!

I've had this sleeping pad for a couple seasons and it works great for keeping you off the ground. I'm 5'6" and its a bit narrow so I suggest getting a Long if you want the extra room. Otherwise Regular is perfect! Its meant for backpacking so they make them smaller than you may think. It comes with a bag to help pressure into the pad but I have never been able to make that work efficiently so I just blow right into the mouth piece and that works great. I've taken this on the river and camping. Still a great pack if you plan to be out for a couple of days!
