Mark Schwartzwrote a review of Lake CX402 Speedplay Cycling Shoe - Men's on August 2, 2019
Familiarity: I've used it several times
Fit: True to size
My old shoes were a bit worn and so it was time to look for some new Sidis, my long term brand. I have big 'ol feet (one is a 14 and other a 14.5) so I need 50s. Josh, my gearhead, recommended the Lakes as they had a Speedplay version (I need the set back) so I gave them a try. Did the fit routine and got the heel tighter (still needs a bit more) and then two days later, wore them for my first ride, the Deathride here in Markleeville, on July 13th. I've now got about 360 miles on 'em and they're getting more comfortable every ride! I read another review that they were hot but I don't have that problem. The vents work very well, even today; I did a ride in the 90 degree heat. The leather is oh so soft and the closure system is awesome. I really love the fact that I no longer need to have to use those cleat extender base plates, either, which added to the stack on the bottom of the shoe. The only reason I'm not giving them a 5 is that they are not so comfy to walk in (really shouldn't be I guess but the Sidis were better in that respect) and the carbon fiber soles get scratched easily in the rocks and such that are either at event rest stops or the side of the road. Still, highly recommend these shoes!
