For this price point, Outdoor Tech's wireless audio offering really strikes a mean bargain, while still leaving a little to be desired.
Pairing the Chips with my iPhone was a cinch. I have also not experienced any issues with my Bluetooth connection like some other users have reported. It was fairly easy to slip the Chips into the housing of my Smith Variance Helmet and the fit was more comfortable than I anticipated. I put on my favorite playlist, throw my phone into the Napoleon pocket of my coat and I'm off!
In terms of audio, it's nothing revolutionary. Outdoor Tech outfitted the chips with 40mm single audio drivers. Audiophiles or bass chasers may be a little disappointed. Of course, if Outdoor Tech were to offer a double driver version at a higher price point, this would appease even the harshest of sound critics. Generally speaking, More Drivers = Better bass response and fidelity.
Ultimately, what sets this product apart from other helmet audio manufacturers is convenience and features. No one enjoys fishing for their phone while on the lift. With the ability to play, pause, and skip songs, answer phone calls, and an added walkie-talkie feature with other Chips users, few can ask for more in the way of convenience. if you can get over the lack of low frequency response in the audio, this is the product for you. Ride on!
