Mallory's Bio

My love for the outdoors comes from an awesome upbringing that kept me outside. Whether it was hiking, running, camping, snowboarding or playing soccer, my parents made sure that adventure and life in the outdoors was implemented into my daily life. I grew up 20 minutes from my home mountains of Snow Basin and Powder Mtn, so skipping class to reap the benefits from the latest snowfall was always an option for me. I'm originally from Layton, Ut but have been based out of Salt Lake for the past 6 years where I got my bachelor's degree in Biology at the University of Utah. I was introduced to rock climbing during my time studying at the U and have been in love with it ever since. Other than climbing in the Wasatch I have had the pleasure of travelling and climbing for 6 months in Patagonian Argentina and Chile, Bolivia and Peru. In addition to climbing in South America, I was also hiking, camping and getting to know the local people and culture. When I'm not at home or working I'm always trying to find a way to be in the mountains or hang out in the Utah desert. If you have any gear related questions I'm here for you!

Headed out on a rafting trip through the Grand Canyon next week, I already have one dry bag but wanted to get one more so that I can have one bag for sweaty, stinky clothes and another bag for my sleeping bag/other down filled items. I went with the 45L which I think will be plenty big for this trip. Excited!

Bought these for my boyfriend last Christmas, he loves them! He got frostbite on most of his toes about a year ago so his feet get cold really quickly so I wanted to get him a pair of boots that would really keep him warm. He loved going from ski boots to his 1964's after a cold morning touring in the Wasatch last year and I know these will last a long time.

My dad is NEVER satisfied with ski gear. Every season I try to satisfy his pains because he always complains about being cold, my attempts have always been unsuccessful. However, it seems the old man is finally happy! He tried these on and had an immediate grin on his face. Success. These are perfectly insulated, not too much not too little, they're stylish and they allow the perfect amount of movement. My mom has the same pair in women's and she loves them. Excited for my dad to finally be happy this year! He is 5'8" 150 lbs and the medium regular fit really well.

I bought this for my mom a while ago, she was wanting an awesome jacket for her rainy hikes. She looooves this. It kept her dry all spring/summer during the rainy season and she took it with her to Costa Rica, it worked great! You can't really go wrong with Arcteryx, if you're willing to spend the money you'll have a product for life!

I friggin love this bra. The only reason I'm upset is because I want another but don't want to spend this much. Anyway, I love this thing. It stretches out during uses but once you wash and dry it it SNAPS back into place. It's awesome, super supportive and I would buy 10 if I had the money. I'm a 32D and the small fits perfectly.

Bought these for my boyfriend, he needed another pair of trad shoes. He's stoked to take these out on multipitch routes and down to indian creek to see how they fair. He's used them in the gym once and says that he loves the ankle support and they climb similarly to TC pros. He's excited. Will update once he gets a few more uses out of them!

I bought a pair of these about a year ago and LOVED THEM! Sadly, I recently lost them and decided I must have them again. I used them doing field work this summer, I would wear them 8-10 days in a row (gross) and they wouldn't stink and wouldn't get all stiff and weird. I love them. The indestructawool is NO JOKE.

My parents are in need of new sleeping bags, they've had the same ones for 20+ years and it's time for an upgrade! They do everything from car camping to backpacking and have been spending a lot of their time in the winter up in Montana where temps dip lowwww. I chose the Helium 15 because I think the 800 fill down will be awesome for them when they go on backpacking trips and need something lightweight. I bought left zips for both of them, but I think if you get left and right zip these will zip together to make a giant, warm, human burrito.

Gifted these to my boyfriend, ice season is just around the corner and he was in need of a new pair. He's stoked about the Mont Blancs, knows they'll keep his toes warm and dry and is excited to take them out on some technical routes. He tried them on in the house, loves how stiff they are and loves how well they fit with his BD crampons.

I gifted these to my boyfriend, this will be his second pair of these shoes so he obviously really loves them! They're lightweight which is great for multipitch climbs, he says he barely notices that he's lugging them up. He also wears them out to bars, to work etc. Probably won't be his last pair either!

I bought these for my dog, Koda, 2 years ago because her front paws have become sensitive to concrete/rocks in her old age. Without the boots on she limps a bit because the ground hurts her feet, but with the boots she trots along happy as can be! She only wears them on her front paws because her back paws aren't sensitive, so I've been able to use all 4 boots for her front paws. She is just now starting to wear through on all 4 of them, they've been awesome! She does trip on them from time to time when she's tired. but other than that we love them. Her old boots were gray but we decided to get the pretty "blue spring" color this time (^-^). She is a 60 lb boxer, her paws are 2.75 in wide, the medium's fit very well.

Pro tip! If your doggo rejects the booties at first, don't give up and try not to laugh. I found that when I laughed Koda wouldn't take the boots seriously. Take your dog on slower walks at first, be very encouraging and give treats!

I gave these to my boyfriend for Christmas this year. He's worn them out quite a few times now and here is what he had to say about them:

"The Tecnica mach1 is a great mix of high performance and comfort. The MV boot has good toe room without having my heels feeling loose. The thermal fit area around the ankles ensures a pressure-point free fit. Canting was easy to adjust. No cons yet!"

I've owned a Nano puff jacket myself for about 5 years, I've put it through a lot, it has a bunch of holes in it yet it still keeps me warm. I've used it on many alpine climbs and it has been awesome, might be time for another one. Anyway, I bought the hooded version for one of my cousins this year as a Christmas present. He lives in California and says the Nano Puff keeps him perfectly warm in No. Cali winter so far! This is a lightweight, versatile piece that will work for anyone.

I picked this board up yesterday, haven't ridden it yet but I'm really excited to see what she's got! I've been riding a Never Summer infinity, directional twin with a rocker-camber hybrid for like 8 years now and I'm pretty over it. It was a great board while it lasted, awesome for high speeds, but I'm really sick of being on a directional twin and want something a little more playful. The minx has a flat profile so it will likely be more fun to play around on the mountain. I've been told that this is not just a freestyle board, that it can be taken all over the mountain, so I'm anxious to see how it handles powder and crud. I think it's definitely geared more towards park/freestyle, but we'll see. Oh, the graphics are AWEZOME!

Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've been in Burton Emeralds for about 8 years (too long). I'm ready to upgrade but I was wanting to get out of the Emeralds so I ordered the Nitro Crown and 32 Lashed boot as well. I wanted the Crown to work out because they have a nice flex system that would be beneficial during walk mode while splitboarding. Sadly, the lacing system on the Nitro Crown was too complicated and messy for my liking, they also didn't fit my narrow feet very well. The 32 Lashed seemed like great boots, but they were wide on my foot and I didn't love the lacing system (better than the Nitro Crown though, in my opinion). As much as I wanted to switch to a new boot I still ended up with the Emerald! The past 8 years I've been wearing a 7.5 Emerald....but I've decided that this was a full size too large for me. Over the years my heel has began to slip on turns. I ordered a 6.5 Emerald and took them splitboarding and to the resort this past weekend...I love them! It's crazy how a well fitting boot can change your snowboarding. My heel doesn't slip out and the medium stiffness is perfect for me, super responsive. Street shoe size is 6.5-7 and I've concluded that the 6.5 Emerald is perfect for me, my toes are barely touching the end of the liner and my heel is held in perfectly.

If you try on a boot and it feels perfect and roomy in the toes, my advice would be to go as close to your street shoe size as possible for a tighter fit. The boots WILL pack out and if you start off with dead space around your toes/heels chances are your foot will end up flopping around in the boot in a few seasons.

In the end, I couldn't really get past how fast and simple the Burton Emerald lacing system is. Burton knows boots!

Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I'm a size 7.5 in the Burton Emerald boots, so I ordered 7.5 in the Nitro crowns. I have narrow feet and I feel like I might have too much room in these so I ordered a size 7.0 to compare. My toes are barely touching the end of the liner which is how I like my boots, but the width of the 7.0 is still too big for my narrow feet. I was stoked on the Crowns because they have the flex link which would be useful for splitboarding. The lacing system is sort of messy and seems like it doesn't lock into place well. I've been in the Burton Emerald's for 8 years (way too long) and loved that lacing system, super easy and fast. I ended up purchasing a size 7.5 and 7.0 in Burton Emeralds and am going to go with those in 7.0 because the Emeralds fit my narrow feet better. The biggest qualm I have with the crown is the lacing system, it was a bit too much for me . The flex on the Crown REALLY is sweet though, I can see how it would help with comfort while splitboarding as well as park/freestyle riding. Flex is nice and they're also still pretty stiff so they'll still be responsive.

Street shoe size is 6.5-7.0

I bought these as a gift for my boyfriend who is usually around a 32-33 waist (Patagonia baggies). He tried these on and needed a 34, so they fit a bit snug! They're really stylin' and he wanted something with a back pocket that closes, the button closure seems pretty secure so he's stoked.

I bought this as a Christmas present for my brother who is a surf bum that lives in his van :). His board has been going with him all over the place and it doesn't have adequate protection, it's been getting hammered by other things in his van so I thought I'd get this for him. He's also been traveling to Central America and isn't able to bring his own board because he doesn't have a bag so hopefully this will make his life easier. Once he gets some use out of it I'll update.
