Kyle Smyth's Bio

Grew up in California and traded in the great Pacific for the mountains in 2010 and getting more and more stoked by the day!
The "Utah Tourism" ads had it all right... you really need a proper vehicle and a heap of gear for EVERY season if you live here full time. Just one of the many reasons joining the Herd was a no- brainer!

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

So it's 2018 and if you prefer to ride your bicycle on dirt or gravel, you should be riding without tubes. Once you have come to terms with that, you should get yourself two sets of these gems. One to aid in setting up your wheels and proper tires tubeless and one set for your tool box or to convince your riding buddy that they should go tubeless as well.

Unlike some other silly shapes that other valve stems may have at the bottom, these circular ones work great with every rim that I have tried them on, and they do a damn fine job.

There is a reason that people that don't run tubeless still know who Stan is, his stuff is class defining for sure!

This product is super simple, but makes all the difference in the world when setting up your tires tubeless the first time or merely topping off some more sealant in your tires throughout the season.

Regardless of what brand sealant you are into, this product is a tubeless must have, save yourself time, frustration, and ultimately money as you wont be wasting extra sealant all over the shop floor.

This is a great little kit to get someone started, I have given a couple of these as gifts now to new riders and they are perfect if you just want something small to come with you on travels that are not all about biking, but you still want to be prepared with some essentials.

Pretty simple kit that comes with most that you need and nothing you don't to keep you out riding farther & longer. And it all fits into a nice case that won't get lost in your bag or likely spill out of your jersey pocket. Another great and simple tool from Park.

This is great manual for anyone that is new to bicycles or is a seasoned vet that is looking to do more of their own work at home. If you didnt grow up hanging out or wrenching in your local shop, this is a perfect resource to get you going in your own garage.
Of course there is youtube these days, but for me, using a book/manual has always been easier when you are dirty in the garage, no need to pause or rewind or pause the tunes to listen to what is going on, just read the book (crazy concept, I know).

Park has been at it for all too long with this book and as one could guess, this is the best version yet! Despite being a few years old and constant updates to 'standards' across the bike industry on almost a yearly cadence, this book is still highly relevant. Even the person that already does most of their own maintenance and tune ups could still learn a few things from this. Protect your investment and learn how to keep up with the maintenance of your favorite 2 wheeled mode of happiness!

This thing measures way more than tape, don't be fooled by other reviews.

I kept this in my backpack for some time as I felt like i always needed in the office ( I do work in the bike world after all) as well as at home, so i finally conceded to the idea that I just needed two in my life, one for the desk at work and one for the workbench at home. This handy lil fella gets used by myself or my colleagues on a weekly basis and having metric on there is a real plus as well.

I bought this for a family member that is a bike nut and their garage shop needed a little flair; this was the ticket.

The size is perfect to rep your favorite blue tool brand without looking like a full blown bike shop. What you would expect from a shop sign though & Park tools. Snag one for your friend or family member that is a nut for blue tools.

This is a brilliant little tool that saves you so much time and mess over the traditional clamp and saw method!
One of our mechanics showed me the beauty of using this vs. a hacksaw and guide and I have been sold eversense.

As others have mentioned, you will want to go slow when using this as well as mildly sand down the lip that is left after the fact on your steerer, alloy bar, or alloy seatpost.

Save yourself some time and potentially a horrible metal shaving blister, add one of these to your garage tool kit.

We all have our favorite orange straps that look just like this one and have been the Swiss Army straps for all sports & seasons. Let's face it, these are pretty much the same with two awesome upgrades for using on your bike; there is no metal so it plays nice with your paint and carbon, it also has a nice lil loop to hold down the tail end and keep everything dialed in.
Love these straps and really like that this is a pack of two as one is never enough.
There are several other option out there to strap items to your frame, but so far this one packs the best bang for the buck in my opinion as being very versatile if you need them to save your ride in another way.

If you don't think you need two, give one to your riding buddy and ask them to borrow it back later down the road.

This pump is brilliant and beautiful!
The nozzle of this pump can be removed to be your C02 inflator, so that is neat! This pump will only work on presta valves, but afterall it is 2018 so that shouldn't be an issue. If you have the EDC Tool System you can slide that puppy right on in the back of this pump so it is the perfect grab and go solution for your lunch ride if you already have a tube strapped onto your frame. The machining of this pump is great and the groves around the whole piece make it super easy to grip with gloves on or if it is wet. If you are into strapping everything to your frame these days, this pump also includes a robust mount that fits under your bottle cage.

I am a fan of C02s most of the times, but there are a few main reasons that I was very excited to finally pull the trigger on this beautiful pump. C02s add up if you are unfortunately having to use them often, no good for the environment, no good on days when you get multiple flats or your riding buddies do too, and you can't take them on the plane (bummer on quick riding trips and not always easy to find an LBS to buy some when you get to where you are going),

Given how spendy Eagle chains & chainrings are, I wanted to make sure I protected my investment and got a bash guard out of the gates for my new trail bike. Despite how well most 1x11 or 12 drivetrains hold onto your chain these days, I still opted into getting a bash guard with a top guide.
Install on this guy is soo easy and doesn't even require removing the cranks which is really nice! I was grateful that it came with both a black and green top guide option as well as several different bash plates based on your chainring size, 30, 34, 36.
I only have initial impressions of this product so far, but will chime back in later after I have put it through its paces.

This has to been my 5th 32oz Nalgene over the years and it is exactly what I have come to expect from Nalgene.... awesome!
Two great features of this bottle are the fact that your 'goat sticker' won't peel off as easy on this one . and the best of all, it comes in glow in the dark!
Love the glow in the dark for those nights in the tent or car camping when you can seem to find where your bottle walked off to. Thank you BC!

I have been fishing with these in fall/winter/spring for over 2 years now and I must say, they are by far my favorite cold weather accessory. They are still going strong aside from a couple small holes & snags from hooks or bushwacking on the way to the secret spot on the river.

These are will worth the investment and they are proving to be more durable than i imagined. They have not piled up and the elastic has remained in tact. Can't go wrong with these to keep you out on the river longer and to make that long sunrise walk to our favorite section of river that much more enjoyable. Thank you Simms!

Got these for our lil dude once he could finally fit in a size 4 ( I think he was about 1 1/2). We got the camo ones and he was soo stoked to wear them. At first I was concerned that they may be a bit too heavy as he had not been walking for too long, He didn't seem to mind and loves wearing them, He is a Vans convert just like Mommy & Daddy and we have since added 2 more pairs into his rotation.

These had been on the 'nice to have' list for the garage shop since I first saw our mechanics in our bike shop using them. I finally pulled the trigger and am happy I have, as I find myself using them for odd tasks almost every time i am in the garage these days. Really dig the magnets on the ends of these as they help prevent dropping them on your toe or hitting the deck and damaging their tips.
Disclaimer: these are not for picking the backyard bbq out of your chompers, not approved by your dentist!

We all have a screw loose or two and are nuts to not try to contain them all on this proper lil mat. Like most things found in the home shop or tools that are blue; there are cheaper or makeshift options out there, but this one will make your life easier and is a worthy upgrade to your workbench.

As with any project, having the proper tools gives you the confidence to tackle the project, this tool will keep your ducks in a row.

I have tried several other options out there to carry your pre-rigged setups and this one takes the cake so far!
Others that I have tried have been far too bulky proprietary fly boxes or are not too protected and the flies end up getting tangled in other items buried in the fishing pack .

Stand out feature of this one is how simple and effective it is, just add this onto your favorite tippet leash (Rising is the go to for me) and your change up rig is ready right in front of you and your flies are protected until then.
Another great product from Loon,

To take this setup to the next level, I recommend using tippet rings on the end of your leader and you can really change up your rig quick with one simple knot.

We are about to order our 3rd one of these hats as this is the only ball cap that our son has actually been excited to wear and keep on!
We had tried several hats when he was younger ,but nothing worked. This hat changed it all, with the fun patterns, our son was excited to have the hat around and with the classic Patagonia baggies material as well as the thoughtful 7 panels and sweatband he wore the hat like it wasn't even on.

I have two 'issues' with this hat;
1) When in stock, there are too many awesome patterns to settle on just one.
2) This style hat doesn't come in adult sizes, I am jealous!

Highly recommend this hat for the little human in your life, their noggin deserves it!.

Fit: True to size
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 175 lbs
Size Purchased: Medium

I have looked far and wide for a hooded vest for all too long, there are plenty of awesome hooded vest options for women and I was soo excited to finally see a non-technical hooded vest for men. My first concern prior to buying this was the length, I have bought and returned likely every other Carhartt vest due to them being cut too short for me ( I don't have a rodeo belt buckle to show off, so wanted a vest a little longer). I was willing to give one last vest a change and had my fingers crossed that it would randomly be cut longer than the rest. I was in luck. This vest is cut a little longer, compared to other Carhartt vests.

These were the first pliers that I bought from Rising and they were the only ones i needed for the longest time. The first thing that really sold me was the tip that is perfect for splitting your split shot; I was getting soo annoyed with cutting off tippet to get the split shot off or slamming it through the guides at the end of the day. With these lil' beauties, you no longer have to bother with the hassle of the split shot removal.

The size of these are great and the 'nippers' in the back do a great job for really being an all in one tool.

As I find my self using split shot less and less as well as getting more an more minimal, I have switched over to the Rising Ultralights as I find them easier to crimp smaller barbs.

Another bitchin' product from Rising, thanks fellas!

First off, if you are getting into tying flies and don't know the name Kelly Galloup, go watch some of his videos, dude is a wizard behind the vise!
In his older videos he has a pretty haggard looking dubbing tool that his buddy made for him, this Rising tool is a proper replica and works awesome! I have been using mine since the moment these went to production and there are several tools that never see use anymore now that I have this one! The weight is great for dubbing loops and i really like the length as it is typically long enough to rest on the pedestal of my vise and not come untwisted like some shorter dubbing tools will.

Another killer product from Rising and an awesome co-lab with one of the best.
