Kyle Smyth's Bio

Grew up in California and traded in the great Pacific for the mountains in 2010 and getting more and more stoked by the day!
The "Utah Tourism" ads had it all right... you really need a proper vehicle and a heap of gear for EVERY season if you live here full time. Just one of the many reasons joining the Herd was a no- brainer!

If you have carbon cranks, you need these. They look great in every shade of black and feel free to go crazy with the colors if you want to match everything up for some added flare. Simple design and brilliant product; now if the crank companies could just provide these already on their cranks... that would be wonderful.

These are great if you are looking for a simple yet very grippy 'stomp pad' for your board. I very much like the profile and the ability to place them exactly how you want based on your stance and potentially the graphics on your board. I have had mine on my board for about 4 seasons now and they haven't budged at all! Will buy again for my next board for sure!

Still the #1 standard when it comes to protecting your sunnies from hitting the deck. Many have tried to re-invent the wheel, but these suckers just keep on ticking. Cotton feels great on the temples and doesn't rip or pull at your hair and they feel even better when they are wet & cool on a hot desert day. At this price point and with such an overload of awesome colors, pretty sure you should lock and load all your sunnies with a pair of Chums! Feel free to thank me later.

Another classic product from Stanley! This wonderful little flask has seen many wonderful adventures and loves dirt, snow, picnics, concerts, beaches, and rivers. Do yourself and your friends a favor, grab one of these and keep its belly full with your favorite libation, and bring it along often.

These are a great addition to your stainless pint glass collection! Perfect to either click your empty glass to your pack for transport or to tell yours from your drinking buddies. Another great product from Klean Kanteen!

Tried and true shop grease for all your small needs. I use this on all threads and to repack freshly cleaned bearings. Great product in a durable package that I can trust in my travel tool bag and in the tool chest. If you are putting together your home mechanic kit, add one of these tubes in the mix; your bike deserves it!

After using hard sided bottles that are far too heavy and cumbersome for backpacking for far too many years, I finally converted over to a system of carrying a couple of these (typically the 2L size) and either the Platypus Hoser hydration bag or drink tube. This allows me a more modular drinking system while also having great at camp water supply that takes of virtually no space or weight in my pack when they are empty. Cleaning & drying these are not my favorite part of using them, but that would be the case with any water storage with such a small 'mouth'. Overall, wonderfull product that is durable, lightweight, and simple!

Love this little item and can't go backpacking without it! In a pinch, I will use instant coffee packets, but this coffee solution is the tried & true! Simple to use as either a poor over system or i have used it as purely a filter for cowboy coffee (boiling the coffee grounds with the water, then pouring into your cup through this filter) when you are wanting a really strong cup. over all great product, just find a cup that works well with it! This is the perfect match for my Snow Peak 450 Ti cup!

This is another must have addition to the Platypus Hydration system along with the bite valve cover. Both of these were not the easiest install, but I sure am happy that I did purchase and install them. Anyone who has ever dumped out all too much water due to their pack squishing their bite valve will appreciate this fine little upgrade that much more. Like all other Platypus products that I have used, this product is simple by design, functional, and durable.

One of those items that you always want to carry around, but never want to use. These boots are awesome and are sure to save the day if you are ever in a position that you find yourself with a sliced sidewall and are rummaging through your tool bag for these. Do yourself a favor and buy an extra to give to favorite riding buddies, never know when you will need a little extra trail karma!

If you ride a tubeless setup, you should certainly consider having at least an extra one of these that lives in your tool kit at all times! I have destroyed these with a pump or an unlucky rogue rock bounce and if it wasn't for being able to buy and have a spare core in my kit, I would have had one heck of a miserable walk out of the woods. Protect your investment and experience, buy one for yourself and your riding buddies!

After having too many complicated hydration bladder, I transitioned over to using the Platy Plus bags w/ drinking tube & the Hoser Hydration for their simplicity! This bite valve cover was a must have for the simple design of the Platypus drink system! It was not the easiest install, but that just means that it will likely not leak or come off anytime soon. If you are getting on the Platypus hydration or already have one of their drinking tubes, this is a very worthwhile accessory to make that wonderful agua taste that much better on the trail as well as keep that dirt out of your teeth!

Have had my Micra for about 25yrs now and it has been a wonderful tool that pretty much goes with me everywhere! It either lives in my pocket or backpack. After several years of always feeling like I need several bigger knives on backpacking trips, I finally just gave into bringing only this lil' guy and it is now my go to and saves soo much weight & space. Unlike a lot of small multi-tools, the scissors are the main feature of this tool and are awesome! I have also since added the Leatherman Squirt PS4 in the knife collection and that is virtually the same tool, but with mini pliers as the main feature, I use this one in my tool kit for mountain biking.

Can't go wrong with this classic tool from Leatherman, highly recommend!

Got this to go with our Poco AG Plus and am very happy that we did as we got stuck out in the rain on our first outing with our little fella. The fit and quality are wonderful and it folds up into a nice built in storage bag. If you have invested in a Poco carrier, I would highly recommend adding this to the mix.

After loving our Kanken that we have been using as a diaper bag, we had to get our son a mini that we could fill with his toys and creature comforts during travel or camping. We also use this for his daycare bag. The material is awesome on this 'Re-Kanken' as it is made entirely of recycled water bottles, yet is still feels like a classic Kanken and is not crunchy in the hand.Everything you need and nothing you don't.

Love this lil' bag! Everything you need and nothing you don't. I wanted a diaper bag that was minimalistic, durable, functional, yet still stylish. The Kanken ticked all these boxes with a happy face! The pockets on the sides are the perfect size & shape for a 8-10oz bottle, the back panel comes with a removable foad pad, that works as a changing mat in a pinch, but I have since removed it and replaced with a proper folding changing mat, there is also ample room in this back pocket for a travel packet of wipes and about 4 diapers. The main compartment is all the room you will need for a day out with the lil' one, plenty of space for extra clothes, blanket, food, and toys. The loops at the top of the pack also have an awesome snap closure that is perfect for hanging this bag from the stroller handle. Lastly, there is a great small pocket in front for quick grab n go snacks or to keep for your own creature comforts.

We love this bag so much that my wife had to have another to use as her travel bag for makeup & toiletries. We have also since added a mini re- klanken in the mix to use as a travel & daycare bag for our son.

Tried & true bag with classic styling, highly recommend!

Game changer! Why I didn’t buy one of these sooner, I do not know. Some of my friends thought it was ridiculous to carry a chair on top of all of the other gear you might need for a few days in the mountains…until they sat in it with a fresh, cold boulevardier after a long day on the trail. The only issue is the possible reclassification of a backpacking trip as “glamping”. So, it’s 2 pounds of additional weight, boo-freaking-hoo. If you were into ultra-lightweight backpacking, would you even be looking at a backpacking chair? No. Buy it and thank me later.

On another note, I guess I’ve failed to realize that you might want to purchase this chair for something other than backpacking. It’d probably be good for any other activity when you might like to rest your butt on something other than the ground but have exhausted all of the available trunk space in your Miata on something of higher priority such as beer, Frisbees or a razor scooter. It is light, packs down small, and comes with a cool carrying case.

By far the smartest wool socks I own. I learn something every time I wear them. Things I’ve learned:
1. Warm feet are happy feet
2. Wool is durable and comfortable
3. If you turn these socks inside out, you can wash them half as much. Sustainability starts with you and your feet. (doesn’t work as well with underwear, but will do in a pinch)
