Kyle Smyth's Bio

Grew up in California and traded in the great Pacific for the mountains in 2010 and getting more and more stoked by the day!
The "Utah Tourism" ads had it all right... you really need a proper vehicle and a heap of gear for EVERY season if you live here full time. Just one of the many reasons joining the Herd was a no- brainer!

Familiarity: I've used it several times

We could not get our lil fella to keep a traditional beanie on at all over the winter when he was about 11 months, but finally this hat did the trick. He was excited to wear it and always enjoyed checking himself out in the mirror.
As with too many baby items, they seem to grow out of them so quick so you want to keep it minimal, but with this being reversible, it was awesome to have virtually two hats with very different patterns/color. Another great Patagonia product for the little people in our lives

We got these for my son when he was just under a year and he lived in them all through Fall to early Spring, he wasn't walking more than a couple steps so the bottoms held up just fine, but I think these would take a beating if your lil one was running around outside in them.

These are soo easy to put on, regardless if he is moving all around and with a ton of washes, they are holding up just fine. After seeing our son in them on a daily basis, it was only a matter of time before other parents at day care had their kiddos styling in these lil booties as well.

I got this well before my lil fella was ready to use it as it requires a pretty strong suck to get water out. Just after 1yrs old, my son was ready to use this and he loves it now! This thing is kicked around the playground & campsite, sleeps in the sandbox from time to time and is always excited to get filled back up with cold water to do it all again, Great logo too and in fun colors!

After several years of buying all heaps of different brands wool sock options, I wanted to give Darn Toughs a go. First off, I couldn't believe that these socks are guaranteed for life and they challenge you to try and wear them out, is just plain awesome! These have quickly become my go to socks for hiking, fishing, and living and I will continue to save my pennies to buy more pairs!

Perfect padding in just the right spots and the peace of mind that you won't blow through your investment, like i have with every other pair of Merino socks that I have bought from other companies.

Q tubes have been the industry leader for as long as I can remember. Great quality and price. If you aren't going to convert to tubeless or just need to have a proper spare in the bag, I would highly recommend these tubes for your needs. I have these on a bike with 26x2.35s and they are holding up just fine.

Fit: True to size

Size Purchased: Medium

After trusting Carhartt pants for years and beating the heck out of them around the house & yard; I had to seek out a shorter version.

These shorts rock and can certainly take a beating! The feel to them is a lot softer than expected and the fit is not as boxy as one may expect from Carharrt.

I can safely say that I will continue to add more of these shorts in different colors to my wardrobe . Thank you Carhartt!

I have used these for dishes as part of a Leave No Trace training and finally pulled the trigger to get a couple for my own camping setup.

Unfortunately, I thought I was previously using 5L ones, but they were definitely 10+. I really wanted to keep these as I needed them for a desert camping trip; but had to return as I am not certain what the small 5L would be best for (my camp plates & bowls would not be able to be washed in these).

If you only need a small container, this one is still built well, just small.

I was soo stoked to see this product around after I shredded my 0 ring in the garbage disposal from my original coffee lid. This lil gem saved the day and got my HydroFlask back in the game. Best part is that the new one was fresh and didnt have a few years of coffee baked into it... yet.
If you have a HydroFlask and dont have one of these tops yet, do yourself a favor and add your favorite color to your cart.

Cheers & Drink Up!

I have had my Wave for 20yrs now and it is still ticking! The Wave has been the multi tool that all others are judged against. It has a thoughtful selection of consistently needed tools in a relatively small package. Like all the rest of the Leatherman products that I have (PS4, Micra, CS4) I will have this awesome tool for many years to come and know that I can punish them on any & every adventure I go on.

If you are looking to have one bury multi-tool that is sure to check off your list of 'must have tools' I can't recommend the Wave enough. More than often, my Wave lives in my truck and my smaller multi tools find their ways into my pockets or day bags.

I have been on the lookout for the perfect pack setup for long day hikes to high mountain lakes and steams and for backpacking. The shot pack is the answer! I typically feed the sternum strap of my backpack through this guy and consider me off to the races!
The fly box slot is the perfect for a small Tacky box or the Days Work.

Traditional tippet holders/leashes have always annoyed me as they mostly position the tippet horizontally, this one however hangs your tippet vertically. Having the tippet vertical is not only easier to access, but also gives you a better glance of what size your are going for. The small clip at the bottom also does a proper job of securing this bad larry to your pack, shirt or whatever you want to hang it to. Another brilliant & simple product from Rising!

Once again Rising delivers and gives me another great reason to add another proper tool to the quiver, thank you Rising!
I wanted super minimalist pliers for quick or lite duty trips to the river; lunch trips, long hikes, or while backpacking.
These were the perfect set to pair with my Rising Shot Pack and have quickly become my go to on a daily basis. Tie up a parracord lanyard with a set up Big Nippas or just these Ultralights and you are dialed!

Was really excited to buy this for my wife, but I thought it was going to be way more comfy than it was out of the package. More of a starchy feel than a soft comfy pom beanie that I am used to.
As one can expect with Patagonia, the quality & fit are spot on.

These have been the go to tying scissors on my desk for a couple years strong. I have 3 total now so that I can dedicate one to just deer/elk hair for to thread and one for backup. I preserve the edges of my scissors and never cut any sort of wire with them and instead just keep an old Rising Nippa in the bench to nip wire. Give these a shot, they are super sharp and have such a fine point that they still work awesome on them tiny flies, the smallest fly i have tied while using these scissors was a 26 without issue.

While in a Patagonia store, my wife fell in love with simple design and fun colors of this hat prior to us finding out that it was a 'kids hat'. As it looked a bit on the bigger side for a kids offering, she tried it on and loved the fit. The lower profile, smaller bill quickly made it my wife's favorite hat as it fit better than any adult specific hats have fit her so far. Definitely doesn't fit like your standard trucker.

Fit: True to size

After trying to get my 1 1/2yr old to keep several different style & brand hats on his head with no avail; this one did the trick!
With the cushy headband and flexible bill, that hat packs all day comfort for your lil' human. When indoors, I usually flip the bill up and it stays out of the way, but keeps him used to keeping the hat on. After a wild windstorm walk one day, Mother Nature wanted her own baggies cap so she swept it away from our son and of course we were devastated... but immediately bought an exact replacement right away. We will continue to upgrade to new colors and sizes of this same cap for years to come. Highly recommend!

If you have carbon cranks, you need these. They look great in every shade of black and feel free to go crazy with the colors if you want to match everything up for some added flare. Simple design and brilliant product; now if the crank companies could just provide these already on their cranks... that would be wonderful.

These are great if you are looking for a simple yet very grippy 'stomp pad' for your board. I very much like the profile and the ability to place them exactly how you want based on your stance and potentially the graphics on your board. I have had mine on my board for about 4 seasons now and they haven't budged at all! Will buy again for my next board for sure!

Still the #1 standard when it comes to protecting your sunnies from hitting the deck. Many have tried to re-invent the wheel, but these suckers just keep on ticking. Cotton feels great on the temples and doesn't rip or pull at your hair and they feel even better when they are wet & cool on a hot desert day. At this price point and with such an overload of awesome colors, pretty sure you should lock and load all your sunnies with a pair of Chums! Feel free to thank me later.
