Familiarity: I've used it several times
I would like to start by saying the pack looks fantastic and its storage, albeit narrow, works well.
Now on to the negatives:
Water infiltration: After walking home (45 min walk) in a medium rain shower in Seattle (heavier than a drizzle, but dropplets were not splashing up from the ground), the bottom of the pack had a small puddle of water in it. Luckily my electronics, or anything of value, was not sitting flat on the bottom or it would have been soaked. What is the point of making the backpack that is "DWR-treated fabric sheds rainfall, moisture" if water comes straight through the zippers (to be clear, the bag did not sit in water at any point)? Useless in the rain in my opinion. Whats worse, is the exterior coating makes the backpack not breath well at all, so the water does not even dry quickly.
The hip bet: Im a pretty small guy. 5'-5" with a 29-30in waist. Even with just a t-shirt, lightweight mid-layer and Arc'teryx Beta AR shell, the hip belt barely clipped in. I tried it with a Northface Aconcagua vest and the Shell, and it was not even close to clipping. Again, im a pretty small guy, so i cant imagine this thing working for most people.
Disappointed in a product that costs this much, i expected much more.
