I did receive these from backcountry for review but the foillowing is my opinion, I am an avid trail and off trail peakbagger (just did the 10 days of the sierra challenge) I find the Hoka ATR 4’s shoes exceptionally comfortable, like a Altra but not zero drop (which for me, I do not like). I think they are great if staying on trail, but too sloppy and not enough traction for off trail scrambling, scree, boulder hopping I do, with that said again on trail they are super comfortable and could be used for backpacking, thru hikes etc. They are great for work standing on concrete all day. I will stick with the stickier rubber of other brands for most of the hiking I do. The Hoka ATR’s were true to size I where 8.5 in La Sportivas and an 8.5 in these although some say you may need to size up 1/2 size in the sportivas. i think the Hoka ATR’s are a great replacement for the Altras for people who do not like zero drop (for whatever reason).
